ROTC scholarship transfer

Hello, My DS Received 4 yr scholarship with ROTC to UNG, Norwich, VMI.
He was not accepted to VMI but was accepted to Texas A&M Blinn Team, UNG, Norwich.
Question, if he accepts 4 yr rotc but asks for transfer to Texas A&M, then they reject his transfer, can he go back and accept for UNG or Norwich?

If someone knows the answer to momarmyrotc's question it would be great because I have similar question
If transfer is denied is the scholarship lost completely?

No the scholarship is not lost, if the transfer is denied you can still go to the original school and use the ROTC Scholarship.

Suppose you were offered scholarship to 2 schools, one of which you were not admitted to (and the other of which doesn't offer a proper Engineering degree). So your intent is to transfer the scholarship and go to a third school. Do you accept the scholarship to the school you weren't accepted to and try to transfer it? And if your transfer request is denied, do you go back to having the choice to accept it to the school you originally declined, or only to the school that didn't accept you?

(I think what will actually happen if he can't transfer is he'll go to the third school anyway and try to earn a school scholarship to replace the national one, but I'm still curious).

I believe your assumption is correct.

Once your son accepts the scholarship to one school, the others are taken off the table. So, if your son accepts to the school he was not accepted he could request a transfer to the third school, if the request is denied then that's it, he can't go back and accept to the other school where he was accepted and received the scholarship.

It's a risky move and they could deny based on the fact he had a scholarship to a school where he was accepted, but that's just a guess.

For the transfer request he would send in the denied admission letter from the first school and the acceptance letter from the school he wants to transfer to, he could get lucky and have the transfer approved on that basis alone. If your son plans to attend the third school anyway then he really has nothing to lose.

Just curious, why did your son list a school that did not offer a proper engineering degree if engineering is his chosen major. This happens often every year that an applicant will receive the scholarship to the one school they never really intended to attend. Cadet Command seems to have a Sixth Sense about these things.

Well, they do offer a dual-degree program with another school, whereby you do 3 years of physics there then 2 years of engineering at UVA, and end up with a master's in engineering. So, I guess that's a "proper" engineering program, I don't know.

His mind is pretty made up, but the financial risk of going without a scholarship is pretty large, as it's a private school we're talking about (but the other school is Michigan, which is even more expensive out-of-state than a private school, so...). My GI Bill will help him out for 2 years if necessary.

Also, the ROO at his choice assured him a transfer would be no problem, :rolleyes2: which helped make up his mind when he was actually down to choosing between the dual-degree program and his final choice. He had already sort of written Michigan off as "too big" even before they declined him.

Thank you Jcleppe, that helps and makes me rethink DS deposits
He was denied admission to first choice AROTC school and where the scholarship currently is.
He's requested a transfer to an accepted school within the same Brigade
If that request is denied because the Battaliion is full -the cost of school even with the merit is double of what we would spend to plan C school. Regardless his plan A has always been Army so he can get there somehow.
It sounds like cadet command makes every effort to honor requests from what I've read and your information today is a bit more hopeful. Thank you.

My transfer was approved today. I was originally selected to go to the University of California at Davis and am now going to the University of Missouri on a 4 year NROTC scholarship for the Marines. I sent in my placement change request almost 3 weeks ago.

Congratulations! I love Marines!

No AROTC transfer here today... I admit I was hopeful for staus updates when the system was down this morning...
