So I'm entering my Freshman year of college, I have a 3 year AROTC scholarship awarded to me and was wondering how if any different my admissions process will be being that i will not be right out of high school. I know i will be starting as a plebe, I'm ok with that. I'm just confused on where to start and how to get the process rolling.

The process starts with going to the USMA admissions and starting the application.

Differences I can think of beteween first time college applicants vs first time high school applicants are (1) you need to submit completed high school transcript and your first semeter college transcript, (2) depends on your regional commander, you might have to get your professors to do school official evaluation and/or high school teachers (3) can ask ROTC PMS for ROTC nomination.

Also how will this play with my scholarship? Does complicate things or does it not really make a difference?

Doesn't affect the scholarship at all. They are two separate things. College applicants usually have to wait until after first semester grades to have their package considered

Good luck!

does the fact that i got the scholarship play in my favor or is it not really looked at?

Yes and no. West Point looks at everything, so being in the Army ROTC shows that you want to be an Army officer. At the same time, I don't think having an Army ROTC scholarship adds any points to your whole candidate score.

Ok thanks for all the info! And do I have to get another DODMERB done? I completed one in May for my 3yr scholarship. Will it be valid for the USMA application?

Ok awesome! That will make it that much faster of a process. Also would letters of recommendation help my packet? i have the ability to get letters from 3 Colonels (USAF), a Brigadier General(USAF), a Chief Master Sergeant (USAF), and possibly a USMA Alumnus. Would those make any difference?

More so for your nomination applications. WP will want recommendations from your profs.

Son was in this exact spot a year ago. He's about to March back and start plebe year at WP now. You want to make A's in your classes. You want to have a schedule that shows you can do college level math/science and composition. You want to do well in ROTC so the PMS can write a nom for you. Having this nom in addition to our congressman was huge. Your best resource here is your regional commander at WP. Contact him/her and see what he/she recommends...then do exactly that.

I would try ROTC out before you commit fully to USMA. Especially since you were awarded a scholarship. Enjoy college, complete ROTC, and at graduation, you still get the 2LT bars
