Hi, I am a second time applicant for USMA and have just started the process of reapplying for nominations. I have an ROTC scholarship as an incoming freshman to a civilian college. I was curious exactly what the process entailed regarding applying for an ROTC nomination. Once you fill out the request form and send it to USMA, what happens? Does USMA give you another nomination application similar to that of your congressional representatives? Does your PMS need to fill out any paperwork or write statement? I have looked over old threads, and googled it, and had a hard time finding this information. Thanks in advance for your help, I really appreciate it.

I looked in the FAQ section of this forum, but don't see any information on how the ROTC nom works. Could someone "in the know" answer? Thanks!

It really is something that is better answered by the senior ROTC instructor at your college. There is a process but it can vary by service. Your ROTC instructor WILL know the process that is applicable and will be able to explain it very clearly!

Bottom line: it is a nomination source with a small pool.

Thanks, Flieger. It's amazing what you can find w/ the google button when applied judiciously. Basically, there's a sample letter you can use to ask your MS instructor to submit nom...he/she fills out a form that is pretty straightforward. The ROTC nom is no where near as labor intensive as the MOC nom request packets.

The ROTC nom is like the Presidential. It is considered a non-competitive nom because as long as you meet the requirements you will get it. There is an unlimited slate, but if I recall correctly only 20 can be charged, I just can't recall if it is 20 per year or total.

You should def.apply because every nom gives you another shot.

To a degree it is competitive as the ROTC PMS has to recommend you nomination.

To get a ROTC nomination, your ROTC PMS has to fill out a form and sign it and send it to West Point.

Recommend you wait until October or early November to approach your PMS.

    - Don't want to appear that you only join ROTC to get a nomination
    - Some ROTC PMSs are not supportive of West Point application
    - If you approach your PMS as soon as school starts, he has very little to evaluate you.

Thanks again, that's good advice. I'll get my MOC applications done ASAP, and approach my PMS regarding the nomination in a couple of months.

Thanks db, that's really helpful. I wish you the best of luck in reapplying. Hopefully we'll be classmates at USMA next year

Hi all...am confused. We found the ROTC nom request...but also found Sec of Army nom...and one of the categories is ROTC. Are these separate, or just two parts to the same nom?
