Hi everyone! Is there any rules regarding mail for Plebe Summer?

There are no hard and fast rules; it seems that every platoon is different when it comes to receiving mail and packages. however, do not send items that would not be allowed on I-Day => ipods, earphones, etc. My DS had no issues with mail at all. But we sent letters only in white envelopes. Care packages, we packed in the USPS flat rate priority boxes, so we knew it wasn't too big for him to carry if he was lugging other things around. I sent healthy snacks, enough for him to share; items he would need like eyeglass repair kit, bleach pen, tide stick, lint brush, etc. Food products, I sent in a plastic shoe box with the first package so he had a storage container. other times I sent in Ziploc bags.

I sent a box once a week, with a funny, musical card in each box. he liked it, but other kids might not. Husband sent a letter every day.

Dont send anything that you would not want to be opened in front of his detailers and entire company. In my company they stood in front of us and inspected every last thing we were sent after we opened it. Needless to say the plebe who was sent playboys was not a happy plebe.

Don't send home-baked goods. No matter how good your intentions are, the plebes will not be allowed to keep them.

Avoid junk food. Send enough healthy snacks to share with 2-3 other plebes, though sending enough to share with the company is not necessary and will probably amuse your plebe's detailers.

Gear I wish I had bought on I-Day:

For Females - bring a hairbrush on I-Day. You will probably not be issued one.
A couple of lighters - great for shining shoes, burning IP's etc.
Black Sharpies - the Midstore does not carry any Sharpie Brand writing implements, and the substitute brand is just not the same.
Spray sun-lotion - it's much faster and easier than the rub-on variety

Don't bring anything more than you want to have to carry ALL DAY. DO NOT try to slip in any forbidden items, they will be found and you and your room mates will regret the decision.

I do not know what company you were in, but mine let us keep everything. I always looked forward to when my roommates mom would send him homemade snickerdoodles :thumb:

Thanks everyone for the help! Also, I heard from someone that the upperclassmen keep your mail and care packages from you over plebe summer until you earn them. Is this true? How would you "earn" them?

Since this would probably violate about a half dozen federal laws, I doubt it.

They might play games saying that they are holding mail from you or something, but really they are bound to give you the mail as soon as they get it. They are sneaky like that but it is all just a game.

Oh - but I'm smarter than those firsties!

I surgically opened a bag of Cheez-It's, slipped in a penlight, and then carefully glue-gunned it closed. It got through their inspections without a hitch.

C'mon! Half the fun is breaking some of the silly rules.

The Statute of Limitations is being strictly enforced with this infraction, by the way.

As I understand it, the detailers will periodically go to the mailroom to pick up packages for the company. When they do so will depend on the schedule, because their days are even longer and more hectic than the Plebes. Any delays in delivery can be attributed to the USNA mail room and the company schedule.

Believe it or not, the detailers generally do not want Plebes to wash out, and mail from home is a good way to help the Plbes' morale.
