On average, how much running will basics do each day during beast? Is it all in one run or spread out (i.e. 1 5 mile run or 2 2.5 mile runs)?

As for running shoes, what are some reccomendations?

They usually aren't super long, maybe a couple miles. Trick is, they feel much longer when wearing boots, ABUs, holding a rifle, and carrying a canteen/camelbak!

You are issued shoes for running. Only time you'll be running in PC gear is morning PT. Otherwise, see above.

How fast do they expect you to be able to run for long periods? In the Instructions to Appointee Booklet, they have a measurement of about 4 miles in 38 minutes. Is that about the speed you need to achieve?

Not fast. You do your morning PT runs by ability level and rife runs are painfully slow.

Depends on if you have PT in the morning, if your squad has "free time" and wants to PT you, if you are late somewhere and double-time it. Just get used to it. It sucks but you have to "embrace the suck." It will be over before you know it.

Love it DK "Embrace the suck"...

Anyway, a note that running will be at altitude and nothing can prepare you for that especially if you live at sea level. DD puked her guts out on the first timed run which was during the first week of BCT. Just remember you are not the only one going thru it.

In the beginning when you are with your BCT squadron run as a pack. There will be time to show off your running prowess later.

    Good luck
