Hi, I am a runner and considering joining the national guard. Do you know if it is possible to run extra miles at basic training either on my own, or with people in remedial PT. I don’t really know how it works.
I'm not sure your going to have alot of extra time to run in basic training. They tend to try and fill alot if stuff into as short amount of time as possible. You'll get to run some, but your time is pretty structured.
Yes, just tell the cadre you’d like to run some more and they will kindly permit you to do so. They will probably see to it the rest of your training partners will run with you too so I’m sure everyone will be ecstatic.
You will also have more time to run when you say things like; "I don't think we should run today Sergeant, you know it is cold and flu season..."
Or you could take one out of the Bill Murray playbook:
Sergeant Hulka: We got a full day ahead of us. We're gonna start out with a five-mile run. [Soldiers groan] John Winger: I know that I'm speaking for the entire platoon when I say this run should be postponed until this platoon is better rested. Sergeant Hulka: Well, I'll tell you what...
