So I know the Academy lets you take your own running shoes...and they should be comfortable and well broken in and all...

What kinds of running shoes are you all taking (brands/models)? I feel like since foot conditioning is a priority it will be worthwhile to get some high end performance shoes.

Does anyone know if there is alot of trail running? If so Gore-tex running shoes might be nice....

A good pair of Asics is always good...

Right now though I wear the New Balance 767. Good support, pretty versatile, good for some light trail running. Made for over-pronators... I'll probably get another pair before I-Day.

I am currently running in Asics GEL-Cumulus 10. In my opinion, they have better support and durability than Nike running shoes, and they are the most comfortable running shoes I've ever worn.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9. I've ran XC and Track all four years at HS, and I believe the Adrenaline GTS series make the best shoes ever (not exaggerating). They are very lightweight, comfortable, and the cushioning is awesome.

Wait, I thought they provide the running shoes...
The appointee packet only said to bring cleats, didn't it?

Hmmm... I could have sworn they allowed appointees to bring their own running shoes even though they issue them.

    Could someone clarify?

hmmm... not sure whether you can wear them during BCT, I would guess no but I really don't know. We'll probably be able to afterwards at least.

If you haven't gotten high-end running shoes before I highly recommend finding a store that specializes in high quality running/track shoes. I went to a local place and got fitted with some nice asics for over-pronators instead of my old cross trainers.

nope you cant wear your own shoes during basic. you get all that issued :)
you wont really use your cleats unless you want to, so they're not a big deal. they're optional

Everything you need will be issued to you on the 25th and will include running shoes. Not sure after BCT but during BCT "everyone" will be the "same" regardless.

Is it wise to bring in a pair of waffles instead of running shoes? I know that waffles are lighter and are very comfortable. I was just thinking that adding some custom orthotics into waffles would make them as good as running shoes--except lighter and more comfortable.

So... sorry to sound repetitive as everyone else has asked-
Should we bring cleats and (if you have them) track spikes? Id Est- if we're, let's say, doing soccer for intramurals and/or running at the indoor track for fitness, after BCT, are we issued these items or are we supposed to bring them for I-Day? I haven't accepted my appointment yet, so if this is answered later on I'm sorry for asking.

you can bring cleats if you want. but you dont have to. most people probably wont bring cleats to basic.

i'm not sure about the track spikes... i dunno if they'll let you run on the indoor track with your spikes. maybe, but who knows. you definitely dont need them during basic

Definitely only molded cleats, no metal!
...just in case anyone was wondering.

I just bought a pair of Asics Gel-Cumulus 10s a few weeks ago and they're working great. I almost went with the New Balance 1063...also a good shoe, more cushioned but more expensive.

I'm planning on having my parents send me my shoes after Basic if that's allowed. I might run XC intramurals, so the Asics will come in handy.

What sort of shoes are issued during BCT? Generic cross-trainers? Any particular brand?

okay cool, thanks HNeedle and Raimus. I have molded cleats, refs don't allow metal cleats at high school games anyway. I'd think they'd allow spikes at the track, unless they don't have any meets in there. If not running shoes would be fine too, but just wondering if you could use them for the fitness tests later on.

Oh and I also have the Asics gels, they're very very very comfortable. I was debating whether I should get those or nikes of the same price, and the Asics definitely left the others in the dust. Nike isn't much of a running shoe maker

If I recall, the cadets of 2012 were issued Asics or Newbalances... Not entirely sure. They did sound like fairly good shoes though.

i have flat feet and will need some sort of support for my feet for distance running. right now i'm using a pair of new balance 737's for heel support and my arch supports. would i be allowed to use them during basic? or are the ones issued during basic good enough?
