Hello everyone. I have recently received my SAT scores from the first SAT I took in March. I am just curious if these scores are competitive enough. I do plan on taking them again in May and probably fall of senior year because I need to raise my math and writing scores. (I know USNA does not look at writing)

Math: 700
Reading: 700
Writing: 610

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,
Ectriso

I think it is almost time for the High School class of 2012 to start their freak outs. I know I am starting.

You have very good, competitive SAT scores. However, the scores are only one piece to the puzzle.

From my experience, I'd say those scores are definitely competitive, better than mine and I just got my appointment. Where are you from? You might consider the ACT as well, I know for me I was much better at ACT. The academy takes whichever test makes you more competitive so it can't hurt.

Nomination wise, it really depends on how your area did because that is who you are competing with. In reality though, just as GoNavyMom said, there are many other pieces you will be evaluated on. My best advice, take the SAT one or two more times; be active in your community and participate in a few extra curricular activities (I have found experiences and investment to an activity is more heavily stressed than sheer number of activities); and do your best in school, challenge yourself (they'll look at your GPA coupled with your level of courses, coupled being a key word). In reality, much to my frustration over the past year, there isn't a magic number to get; do your best and keep striving to be better. Good luck!

Thank you for your responses. I am from New Jersey. I am probably not going to take the ACT because I took a couple practice tests and I found that I did a considerable amount better on the SAT. I still have 2 more SAT to go. I understand that it is only one piece of the puzzle but this was definitely a stressful piece.

Terrific scores. USNA does not take the writing. Unless you could get a 35 or 36 on ACT, would seem superfluous. Work on making sure your teacher rec letters are detailed, specific, top drawer ... and hone your interviewing skills for MOCs and Senators. Do pullups out the gazoo. Good luck. SAT will be the least of your concerns now. They are sufficicient. 'Twill be your other stuff that'll make your diff now.
