On my first time taking the SAT I scored a 640 in critical reading a 650 on math and a 570 on writing. On all of the sites I have looked on it shows that the Academies only take the reading and math scores into account. Is this true? and if so should I retake the SAT and focus only on math and reading?

You should keep retaking the test as many times as you can afford and have time for. All the sections from my ACT and SAT were listed on my portal, but I have heard that Math and Reading are the most important sections. If you can you should try taking the ACT too, I scored significantly higher on my ACT over my SAT.

I'm assuming your applying for c/o 2020? Keep taking it and try to improve all areas, keep in mind your scores will be used for nominations and plans B,C,D, etc...

USAFA uses all scores. RoyalDutch is right. If you are able to take the SAT/ACT multiple times it's worth it.

Good luck!

Of you can get the CR & M up to 700 each, that would be great. Forget the writing portion. No one cares.

They are also removing the writing portion from the SAT. I am not sure when the new test goes into effect, so the writing really will not matter! Good luck!

I believe the new test will be implemented next year. I'm not really sure how it will differ from the current one, though.

The writing portion was just plain STUPID! Make kids who have been doing almost all their writing on computers/laptops for eight + years write a paragraph on a sheet of paper in pencil. Totally ridiculous. I know of a pair of twins who didn't answer the actual question, but just put down their objections to this "test" (in six sentences), and still scored in the 600s. Really!! They didn't even come close to answering the question which was something like "What makes you happy?" Not taking this test would have been my answer.

When you say "twins" are you referring to your sons? That wouldn't surprise me, if they have any of your spunk ;)

If the SAT writing is anything like the ACT writing, it is pretty dumb. On the ACT, the prompts were always so bland and generic that it was very hard to write anything good about such a dumb question.

Bailey, I wouldn't have access to the SATs of anyone else's twins. :)
