I'm so angry at myself for this, but I missed the deadline for registering in the June SAT. It was supposed to be my second time taking it, but I made a mistake thinking I was signing up for the U.S dates, when the international date zoomed by. Schools just been really busy, but now I really blame myself for missing something so trivial. Any advice for my course of action anyone? I'm guessing most my letters for nominations will be going out this summer, and the next SAT is probably in October. *sigh, so much for an early appointment. lol

    thanks everyone for any input:thumb:

Were your first SAT scores really that bad? I would submit them, then talk to your ALO about whether or not to retake. I'm pretty sure you can still count the October SAT in your application. So what if you don't get an early appointment. Lots of highly qualified appointees had their apps done in the fall and didn't get appointments until last month. In the end, everyone who makes it ends up in the same place at BCT. It's not too late to take it again.

Dont worry, same thing happened to me last year. I took them May but didn't sign up for June because the results hadn't come in so i ended up having to take them again October and then November. As long as your scores weren't HORRIBLE, you probably will not have any trouble getting through the innitial parts of the application process + MOC.

    Standby SAT

    Neoseeker99-
You could still try standby testing by walking in the day of the test:
    http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/testday/standby.html

If you miss the late registration deadline, there's still a chance you can take the SAT or Subject Tests as a standby. Test centers accept standbys on a first-come, first-served basis only if they have enough space, testing materials, and staff—so there is no guarantee that you'll be admitted to the test. Standby testing is not available for Language Tests with Listening, center-based SSD testing that requires special formats, school-based SSD testing, or in certain countries.

Not sure if this would work in your location, but it might be worth a try.

Haha that would be hard to determine off the top of my head. But I will have to say that for the Air Force, at least, anything 530-550 on all three sections would be bad. anything 530 and below I would consider "horrible". See the disadvantage of having horrible SAT scores is that if you put your info on the preliminary application, they might not accept it (I don't know what happens after that). Also, at least with my MOCs who had deadlines in late October, they probably wouldn't select you from all the rest of the candidates through the selection process and you'd be SOL.

Good luck, poster above had a good advice, I didn't know you could do that or I would've tried it too.

Your writing score is required, but not considered as part of the application. Only crit reading and math.

PDub, I know it's a rumor that the writing part isn't looked at, but I doubt it's right. They MUST notice a writing score of like 320 if everything else is in the 600s.

Neoseeker, your scores are not completely bad. when I had to do the preliminary stuff, I just used my scores which weren't that far from yours, and when it came to the congressmen and senator, they have a space where you provide when you will be taking the SATS again, so I put dates down. They accepted my application, and on the day of the interview, I brought to them the latest scores. Just keep looking to see if you can still take them soon, or if not, try for the ACTs.

I guess you might be right - there is no where that says writing score is not considered. On their website, however, only crit reading and math are mentioned. According to academyadmissions.com, it takes a crit reading of 580 and math of 560 to be competitive, and the average has been 643 and 663, respectively.

I wouldn't worry at all about the writing score. I know of a set of twins who just decided "the heck with this!" about the writing and essentially wrote the absolute bare minimum (in their minds). While their CR and M were great, their W score was markedly lower (around 630 as I recall, so not terrible - just not fantastic.). One twin was worried about it and asked admissions after appointment if there had been any hesitation because of that W score. Adcom said she'd never even looked at it.

If you're applying to other colleges, as backups, I suggest you try hard on all subjects. I don't believe in mediocrity just because one part isn't looked at by one of the colleges you're applying to. Keep your options open and try your best on all three.

Ditto. And if I recall correctly, in the US last fall, the first time (after the summer break) you could take the ACT was September, while their were no dates for the SAT until October.
