Hey I was wondering what happens to money that you get from local scholarships. I was talking to my BGO and he said that there was a fee whenever you show up on I-day, he described it as a very small investment for a much bigger future. My parents want me to get as many scholarships as possible, and I thought that there was a bank at the Naval Academy for all of the students there. My question is that if I get more scholarship money, do I get to transfer the money into the account at the Academy, or would I have to keep it in an account back home?

The start up fee for USNA was done away with a number of years ago (was in the $2400 range back then). If you are awarded a scholarship you need to check with the institution that awards it and see what the stipulations are for the award. Some require that the money be sent directly to the school (USNA) while others will pay the sum directly to the student.
Scholarship awards can be applied to a mid/cadet's "debt" and the Academy can instruct you prior to IDay on the process for crediting it to your account; some mids/cadets wait to have the award processed until AFTER they have completed Plebe summer...just in case.

local scholarship

does anyone know how or where to send any local scholarship money. I thought I saw some paperwork from USNA on this subject but can not locate it at this time!

I think the paperwork was in the permit to report package. You can access this online (CIS) if you have lost any of the forms.

Check directly with the USNA admissions/records folks. My now-2nd-class son had scholarships that had to go to the institution ... the USNA accepts these and, as I understand it, they go to paying off the ACE loan for uniforms, computers, books etc. It does not change the amount of net "pay" mids receive as they go along, but as I understand it, by the time you are a senior all loans and such are paid off and the mids receive more each month. The sooner the payoff, the larger the net the mids get ...
Seriously though, we had to call the USNA and get transferred a few times to get the right address and such for the scholarships. Do not think you are doing this on I-Day. Do it later ...
