Hey all!

So I just got some pretty cool news...I was awarded the Presidential Scholarship at Marion Military Institute (3/4's tuition covered!). I would, of course, be self-prepping if I went there since it's not the CG Scholars, but I would be enrolled in the SAP program for USCGA. Any thoughts on if I should take this route as opposed to community college (my original plan was attend community college, swim, and be involved in the CG Auxiliary). I'm very confused (obviously!!) so any thoughts on this would be GREATLY appreciated! :thumb:

Sincerely,

Allyson

Go for it!

This is a great opportunity for you. I personally think the program will be advantageous to you more so than community college. You will have ongoing guidance from the military instructors who have relationships with USCGA. Plus the military training and physical fitness that you gain at Marion will benefit you as well. More importantly are the lifelong relationship that you will establish with the other coeds who will enter the various academies, including USCGA. The USCGA cadets who have attended NMMI or Marion will undoubtedly agree they have an advantage as Swabs, because of the training and relationships gained at either of these prep-schools. You will have friends standing next to you on R-Day!

Congratulations!

I would personally take the scholarship over going to community college. Congrats!

I am a current cadet at MMI and we had about half of the USGA Scholars in my company. Nobody seemed to have any regrets about going to MMI and they all were very excited when they got appointments.

Thanks guys! I'm really hoping to see myself in a 2016 cap next summer

Riverdale- same for your son, too!:thumb:

I'm looking forward to meeting you. I'll be on the MMI campus next week.

Congrats Allie! My son will also be attending MMI. He got the Dean's Scholarship and a couple others plus he will be wrestling. I will PM you with his info. He was thinking of forming some study group if time permits.

LCDR M.- Looking forward to meeting you and seeing the campus!

proudpop- Sounds great! PM me his contact info so we can get in touch. I'm game for study sessions!

swimmer27. My DS also recieved the Presidential Scholarship from MMI and will attending there as an "unsponsored" cadet. He will be in the SAP program as well. He is looking forward to this experiance. He was seeking an appointment to the Naval Academy and i guess came up short somewhere. It would be great for all of you that are going there un-sponsored cadets could ralley together and hit the academics hard and do well. Would love to hear from you.
