Hey all,

I recently found out that a classmate of mine was recently appointed to USNA. Does that affect my chances at all for an appointment? Should I be worried about not receiving an appointment?

We had 7 from our congressional district last year. None were recruited athletes and one was from NAPS. I have no idea how the academy assigned all the nominations because our congressman only had one opening and only one had a second nomination from one of our state senators. The academy figures it out somehow. Until you receive that TWE it's not over. :)

Where a NOM is issued can be different from where the SA charges it. There is no limit to how many can be appointed from the same h.s. in a given year.

No. My buddy was 1 of 6 at USNA from his high school class when were Plebes. I believe his school had around 20 total at USNA at that time. Hang in there. Everyone will know soon.

It might feel a little depressing to know a classmate got in (first) ? But don't worry cuz it doesn't affect your chances:) Think positive! now you may have a good travel buddy to carpool etc!

As several of our plebes and many upperclassmen and current officers could attest (we sponsor mids), IT IS NOT OVER UNTIL YOU RECEIVE TWE. So until that comes, keep up on the various back up plans. Dont read into others getting an appointment over you until that TWE comes or your portal changes to reflect said information regarding TWE. Also know that in years past, lots of people get TWE but their portal does not change. It would change if a medical issue cant be waived or possibly academics. Good luck to OP and keep your head up.

Another kid from our congressional district got into USAFA and I thought my DS had been eliminated then he got in the next day. Then 2 more from our district also got in. So keep hope alive!

A famous Navy saying is: "Don't Give Up the Ship!"
You never know where each nomination originates. Yes, there is a limited number for each Congressman/woman, but Senators from each state can also nominate; also, some candidates may get Presidential noms in recognition of 20 or more years of military service (active and/or reserve) by a parent; and there several other sources of nominations, too. This means there may be several appointed candidates from any one school or Congressional District.
