I'm an officer in the Sea Cadets... Would like to hear from Sea Cadets (or their parents) that applied in this cycle and what the result was... Please include the rank you achieved.

DS was a Chief and the division's Leading Chief Petty Officer for 18 months. TWE on April 3rd.

I cannot say enough great things about the USNSCC. My DD found the program while researching USNA just under 3 years ago. Two of her younger siblings have followed her into it. They all LOVE it! Between the three kids they have been to a variety of trainings after RT; Basic Sailing, Field Ops, Seabees, Scuba, POLA and Winter Survival. This year's trainings are just starting to be posted so I'm not yet sure what states our summer will take us to this year, haha! Will you be going to RT this summer?

Parent of DS, PO3, LPO on alternating weekends, he has been with USNSCC since Oct 2014. Has been to trainings in OH and TN. He loves it. I fully believe he is prepared because of this program no matter what happens. He is still CPR as of right now.

Sent you a private message. For the record, I'm involved with Knighthawk Squadron out of Vienna, OH. Great program, wonderful candidates. I also introduced a similar thread in my USNA Candidates group on Facebook.

Applying next cycle. DS (a Junior) is a PO1 and will receive Chief in June. He’s been in Sea Cadets since 8th grade, and has attended many incredible trainings such as Coast Guard Maritime Interdiction Ops and FAA Ground School. The program has helped guide his career focus, but we also know that it’s just one part of being a well rounded individual. We’ve been told the Academy looks favorably upon it, but not to the exclusion of other activities. Therefore, DS has worked very hard to heed the advice of other posters on these forums. He is also “band heavy” but has taken on a varsity sport, is extremely physically fit, and will attend Boys State in June. Like another poster said recently, it’s a 6AM to 11PM kind of high school schedule, but it’s what he has chosen to do; it’s part of the journey. Although he hopes that the leadership experience and community outreach in Sea Cadets helps show commitment to service, he is fully aware that he must prove himself in so many other ways, including GPA and test scores, etc, etc.

For those not offered a ROTC scholarship or a SA appointment, the USNSCC offers scholarships ImageUploadedByService Academy Forums®1460398881.983132.jpg

DS was a PO1, graduated HS last year and aged out of program. TWE'd from all SA's 2015. Attended NW Prep and got USMA, TWE from USNA & USAFA

Thank you...Beat Navy! I hope your DS will not give up. Last year when DS was TWE'd by all SA's was a challenging/discouraging time. If it's the dream of your DS, don't give up. After a lot of counsel and prayer, our DS turned down AROTC and AFROTC scholarships to several universities and went to NW Prep as a self-sponsor (kind of a misnomer, I wrote the check). If USNA is his goal, unless they recommended prep, go to university is the best advice. Never give up

My DS was a PO3 Sea Cadet, ranked 1 of 65 at his NAS JAX Recruit Training "Honor Cadet," and was 1 of 10 accepted last summer to the Special Warfare SEAL Training in Panama City, run by Navy Seals. He was 1 of 8 who finished and received his Trident Pin. Every Congressional Board was impressed with him showing up in uniform for the interview and asked him about the pin and his training. He received an NROTC scholarship and will be headed to Auburn. He actually had everything and more USNA could ask for but didn't match up with the quotas for race, gender, and ethnicity. He's very excited about Auburn and I'd recommend every Sea Cadet apply to the NROTC programs as a back-up or first choice. You are strictly reviewed on merit and have a great shot at getting a 4 year scholarship with your background!

He didn't meet quotas for race, ethnicity or gender?
And you know this for a fact? As in you were told specifically by your admissions counselor? Tell yourself whatever you have to in order to accept this disappointment, but probably best to keep your absurd, completely unfounded observations to yourself. Best of luck to your son.

I haven't applied to service academies or ROTC scholarship due to citizenship requirements but I just wanted to tell this to people like me. I'm an E-3, soon to be midshipman and sea cadets really helped me realize my passion for military. I will be attending St.Louis College of Pharmacy but I still have a passion for service academy. I'll be doing Army ROTC at a nearby school and I'm also looking at the national guard. I want people to know that there are tons of opportunities out there besides the service academies. For a non-US citizen like me, if you really want to join the military and become an officer, there are a lot of ways to do it.
It may take longer than you'd like, but eventually you'll get there

Excuse me, Sir, are you saying there was no opportunity for your son because they do not have a quota for someone with the same race, gender, and ethnicity as your son, or someone else in your district was better than him in the same race, gender, and ethnicity group and got selected, but not him? Did you complain to your congressman/woman?
