Secession?

Secession is an American principle. Our rights are being deprived and I love that this is happening. It is in our declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

tl;dr If you haven't read our Declaration of Independence in full you do not get my response.

Anyways, there is enough proof of tyranny in the current government. Obamacare, NDAA, TSA, Patriot Act. The more wealthier the populace gets, the less they care about their own rights.

That must be an interesting Freshman American History class your taking in high school.

Make sure you include this in your essay for the USNA in 3 years.

I'm not promoting secession. I am saying that it is not wrong. Personally I believe that over a million people did not die for someone to trample on the constitution, call it "imperfect" and take away our rights. Individual rights are more important than anything, and men have fought to defend and protect them. I don't realistically think secession will happen, since this is just a minority.

EDIT: Anyways, just voicing my opinion. Sorry if anyone was offended or such, don't hold it against me.

Really...

-I'm not kidding, it's funny and sad.

-These clowns are actually flying the Battle Flag of The Army of Northern Virginia, asking folks to sign for "States Rights"

-I was called a "Liberal-Yankee Skallawag" (sp?) Yes, I was.

-I told one of them, that if a burning cross ends up in my front yard, I was coming after him.

Texas is the only state that is technically "allowed" to secede since it was its own nation before joining the union.

This heavily popularized bit of Texas folklore finds no corroboration where it counts: No such provision is found in the current Texas Constitution (adopted in 1876) or the terms of annexation.

Nor is there any special "Texas only" language found anywhere in the US Constitution. All states voluntarily joined the Union, and (theoretically) all could leave the same way.

Texas has the same exact federal rights and privileges pertaining to "secession" as does every other US state.
 
This buzz about secession makes me wonder what sort of Constitution we would come up with if the original imperfect one expired, or had been written in disappearing ink, or fell into the crack between the refrigerator and the kitchen counter. That would be one rancorous convention if we could even agree on where to hold it.

Maybe we'll add in a thank you to Madison, Jefferson and Franklin et al. for their efforts next Thursday.
 
Secession is unconstituional

The United States Supreme Court ruled in Texas v. White, 74 U.S. 700 (1869) that unilateral secession was unconstitutional while commenting that revolution or consent of the states could lead to a successful secession.

We could lose Texas and pick up Puerto Rico and not have to change the flag! :shake:
That would be a hassle. Or, we could have a reality show competition to design the new one.

I think that Texas could do pretty well as its own country as us Texans are pretty rough 'n' tough but I wouldn't want to see the union break up. I'd rather see the country turn around as a whole...

No state is allowed to secede.
