Second AFROTC Board results

My sons is a Type 2 Nontech, but it was not awarded at the board. It was a Commanders Leadership scholarship.

Becksgirl, my DD also got a nontech commander leadership scholarship. She was originally on the HSSP but then was removed to get the CLS. To what school was the scholarship to?

Nav84, what were her stats for receiving the scholarship?
The stats that led to my DD (HS senior) receiving a type-7, 4-year, any major scholarship:
SAT 1300\ACT 31,
top 8%,
4-yr varsity tennis (2-yr capt), and a
fair amount of extracurricular and community activities.

He is going to University of Southern Mississippi. It is where he interviewed and where he had planned to go all along, scholarship or not.

^^^ Evidently not. I would expect the board to light up when they do.

Winner: My DS had his interview a week and a half before the last Board met, and he hasn't heard anything nor has his status changed. We had hoped the interview was done in enough time but I guess not. When DS was given dates for the interview, he chose the first one available.

Exact same thing happened with my DS. His status reads "Your Air Force ROTC Scholarship interview has been received and processed. Your record will meet the next available selection board..." so guess we'll be checking status 16 MAR (or 13 APR)...

I just checked and found:

"Results of scholarship boards are normally released within 15 days after completion of a board."

Also you wont have to wait for the next board unless it says you were deferred. I've had the "Your record will meet the next available selection board" since early January when I submitted it. So we should hear within the next few days!

DS rec'd letter today, Type 7, 4 year.

1400 SAT
IB Diploma Candidate
3.9 GPA
Varsity Basketball, Team Captain, MVP Awards
Organizer of several clubs and intramural activities
Usual community service and volunteer work

Did not apply to any IS public schools, already accepted to top choice so we will be converting to the 3 year Type 2.

Congrats MHawley.

The 1st thought that went through my mind was WOW those are impressive stats and he only got a Type 7? Was his listed intended major tech or non-tech?

Before you convert to a Type 2, call the colleges to see if they will charge IS for ROTC cadets on scholarship, some actually will do that. I am sure he will also be getting merit from those colleges so this issue might not be a player in the equation, but if it comes down to 3 colleges being equal and one offers IS as an OOS it may be the deciding factor.

My Sister-in-Law is a Golden Eagle. She had a lot of fun at that school!

Congrats

For those who have received Type 7... any of those NOT for technical majors?

My son received the paperwork offering him about 15 different majors, however, they were really pushing Computer, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering + Nuclear Physics - He took C.E. since it was what he wants anyway. I think Ops Mgt was the least technical of the offered fields.

Best

Does anyone know what comes first, the letter in the mail or the change in status on the application page?

DS received the letter in the mail. Funny thing is he checked the website that morning and it still said he has been passed over for the first board but would be reboarded ... When envelope came he thought is was a TWE ( although not white but Manila) and was very surprised it was a scholarship offer. Website chanced to "congratulation, you have been selected for a scholarship" the next day.:thumb:

Type 2 offered Type 1

Received a Type 2 offer with the option to upgrade to a Type 1 for selected majors: EE, CE, Nuc Phy, Nuc Eng, Met.

Pima:

Thanks for the congrats. His major is Mechanical Engineering. I too was dismayed that he was not offered a Type 1, however, his top choice, Worcester Polytech in Mass, has been generous with merit money. Also, even though his scholarship will not be activated until his sophmore year, WPI will throw in Room & Board starting his freshman year. Even with the Type 2, so far, all tuition and R&B are covered.

We just received his acceptance from VTech today so we will see what they have to offer in the coming weeks.

From other posters here I would expect merit from VT.
