Second Time on the Roller Coaster

DD had a senatorial interview this am. Said it felt like it went well. And the waiting begins round 2

2nd time for my #1 son as well - currently AROTC (offered NROTC as well, but didn't get into those schools).

As for the impact on him if he doesn't get it the 2nd time around, well, I urged him to go for it, since I've always regretted it whenever I "settled."

What schools did he not get into? Only asking bc my son recently applied to nrotc and we are waiting

Reapplying

I also am reapplying this year, not going to be deterred by a rejection letter. Good Luck everybody as we all sit and wait until they review our applications in January!

DS received an email to call one of our Senator's office. Was on cloud 9 after the call to find out he received a nomination! And now, we wait, again. Asking his CO to write a letter of recommendation to the academy. Fingers and toes crossed. Have not heard from other nomination sources. Once the semester is finished, we will rejoin the mailbox stalkers.

Getting off the coaster

Well son is thrilled at where he is at in San Diego and has decided to not submit. Just wanted to let you all know and wish you luck on the adventure. I am thrilled he has found a place and program that he is happy in and is doing very well academically, socially and is able to make it all happen while a D1 athlete.

All my best to you and your son Currey! I am glad that he is happy and doing well. Have a wonderful holiday!:thumb:

Currey, I join the others in wishing your son a great college experience and future. San Diego is a great college/Navy town. Our DS will be a SWO after commissioning and I know he would be happy to be in San Diego. Our DD is still on the roller coaster, attending prep/college ,coming home this weekend for nomination interviews. The ride seems a little calmer the second time, so far.

Curry, is your DS at USD?

Currey, so glad your DS is enjoying his freshman year thus far, hope his season goes well, he's sure to be busy between his athletic schedule, and ROTC, not to mention classes.
The waiting game continues here, Meets start next week, and second nom interview completed, hopefully with good results. Coach still interested, so fingers remain firmly crossed. DS enjoying freshman year thus far, but still determined to follow this path. Best of luck to all waiting to hear good news from both their congressional reps and for their first semester grades. Happy Holidays!

Very happy to hear your good news, Currey. Your ride last year was certainly wild and L - O - N - G!

I posted in July that DS has another ticket to ride, and since then I have often wondered whether he would. He is doing great academically and seems very engaged and happy. I have found myself thinking that last year's disappointment was a blessing and that he could just stay put and have an amazing college experience and Navy career. Over Thanksgiving break I learned that his resolve to earn a USNA appointment has never been stronger. He loves NROTC but thinks he will get a fuller experience at USNA. Now that he's a year older, successfully launched on a path to commission, and not around to fret about all the time, the ride this year will be much easier for me, even if it is a white-knuckle ride for him.

Good luck to all once again on this ride!!

Kayaker,
DA expressed the same determination over the Thanksgiving break. Would love the company as we start the climb.

Just an FYI: DS, "Yea, I'm in prison." (Plebe at USNA). Definitely NOT college. Just some food for thought.

3rd time applicant here! I haven't been following this thread but I just found it and the task of reading all previous 116 posts is daunting. I did skim it, however, and the general trend seems positive. I hope everyone's applications this year are successful and I hope to graduate in 4.5 years with all of you and your DS/DDs!

Here's my update:
Today marks what my parents called the triple trifecta. Being from NM, it is not particularly difficult to acquire a nom and today I received my 3rd nom to USNA for the 3rd year in a row. 3 years, 9 Noms total; hopefully the admissions board likes that.

Again, best of luck to everyone!

Good luck, Hopeful!!

Crossing my fingers for you Hopeful midshipman! My son had a friend who made it in after the third attempt. He is a midshipman 2/c now! A parent from our USNA parent club has a daughter at USNA who also made it in on her third attempt. It takes a very determined person to go through this process multiple times. Hoping you are one of those who gets the BFE this time around!!

Hopeful,
Best of luck to you! Welcome aboard. Fingers are crossed for you!
