Yes my DS is still waiting. Portal still says complete pending review! Very happy he is completing a successful year on NORTC scholarship but the wait is tough! Class of 2018, we are pulling for you! Let's hope the third time is a charm! Good luck to all those on the roller coaster fore the second and third time!

My DS is a second time applicant. It is a little easier this time because he is at the university. Last year was so hard.

My thoughts exactly. DS said somebody in his dorm has received an appointment already, so he is on edge. It is much easier this year though, as was the application and interview process. Good luck to your DS. Hopefully all these second and third timers will get good news soon.

He is not. His BGO told him it didn't matter one way or the other, but to make good grades and be involved in outside activities.

I agree! My son is in a battalion as a college programmer, not on a scholarship. I doubt it makes any difference. It takes a lot of his time, that I do know.

interesting. I would have thought that showing commitment to becoming a naval officer would be very important

Coming from a college programmer myself, I sure hope being in NROTC helps... It takes up a lot of time! Due to PT and Naval Science classes there are multiple days each week us NROTC mids have to get up at 5 AM when we could have awoken at 10 AM without NROTC. Add this lost sleep, added classes and more responsibilities life without NROTC would be MUCH easier (not to mention MUCH easier to obtain a better GPA). All that being said, NROTC is great and even if it doesn't help with my USNA application I still would of joined!

Not sure how much weight this carries but when DS interviewed with his MOC's panel they recommended that he also apply for ROTC because it 'shows he's serious about serving'. Can't hurt, unless of course it effects your GPA.

I agree with all of y'all and commend you on joining NROTC. It has to help, there is no doubt! It was a decision DS made on his own. I do not see how it cannot give an edge in admissions. Good luck everyone! And God bless all.
