Hello, I went into the USMA candidate portal and saw this in the nominations section:

"The Secretary of the Army

Is annually allocated cadetships in the following categories

  • Presidential (Sons and daughters of career military personnel)
  • Enlisted members of the Regular Army
  • Enlisted members of the Army Reserve/National Guard
  • Sons and Daughters of Deceased or 100% disabled Veterans
  • Army Junior and Senior ROTC programs and Honor ROTC units of other services"
I'm in an Army JROTC unit. Does that mean I'm eligible to apply for a SECARMY nomination? The website also has a preset request letter. How and where do I send this letter if I'm eligible?

Go back and re-read the info on the USMA website. The instructions are clear.
See screenshot below.
Be sure to apply to ALL the nom sources you are eligible for, as West Point advises candidates to do: / Senators, 1 Representative, BP, etc.

The form is selectable in a couple of formats and will automatically fill in your specific information. The portal also tells where and when the form needs to be returned. Good luck. Please note that certain categories of nominations have limited numbers of spots available. You would still want to seek nominations from other sources as well (House, Senate, V.P., etc..)

I'm aware of the ROTC nomination, but that's a separate section from the SECARMY nom on the page so I was wondering if it's a separate thing to apply for. Or do all of the service-connected nominations fall under the SECARMY jurisdiction?

Yes, the form explains it all and there is a check box for JROTC but, again, don’t rely on it as your only nom. source - there are allotted numbers in these categories and you still want to seek nominations from ALL sources you are qualified for.

Read the link below to understand all the nom flavors, particularly page 7, and the footnotes. ThEJROTC and college ROTC noms fall under a Secretary Service category of nom authority. There are also some nom authorities the SA manages for which you don’t apply.
