Security clearance?

I've had to do a lot of these TS/SCI interviews because when you live in military communities, everyone and his brother is always getting them renewed, and many neighbors need to be interviewed. I remember one funny one back when we were stationed in Ohio. The guy was asking about our next-door neighbor and how we knew her. I said we were friendly, we chatted at things like the neighborhood ice cream social, talked over the fence, etc. Then the investigator started asking a series of pointed questions about her drinking habits, getting more irritated when I was kind of like, I have no idea how much she drinks, I've ever seen her drinking, etc. Finally he said, "But you said you socialize at the neighborhood wine social!" Ummm, no . . . ICE CREAM social, LOL. No wine there!

Like others have said, nosy questions about their financial state and if you feel they would be open to bribes are usually in there, as well as questions about dealings with foreign nationals, and if you see them going in and out of the house frequently, etc. They just want to know if you have any reason to suspect that the person would not be a good candidate to have access to information about national security.
