I will be turning 18 in the middle of Beast. Do I still have to register for the draft? If so, how do I do it while at USMA? I heard my parents can do it for me but don't know for sure.

When i did my security clearance for the ROTC it asked for a seletive service number and you cant be an officer in the military without security clearance. All you have to do is go online and google selective service. On registration they ask for your full name, address, social security number and birthday. Then in like 2 weeks you will receive a selective service card. Your parents can do that while your at beast or once you get your computer you can do at west point.

I already know I can't be drafted. I just wanted to know if I had to register (since service academy cadets are considered active duty). I guess I'll get my parents to do it then. Or I might do it myself, the website said you can fill out the form and submit it if you are 17 years and 3 months old and they will keep it filed until 30 days before your 18th birthday then automatically proccess it and mail you a comfirmation.

I'm pretty sure the Academy will take care of that for us. I do remember reading that since we are going to the academy they just waive the registration since it would be ridiculous for the military to try and draft us when we are already members of it.

Cadets/midshipmen at USMA, USNA, USCGA, and USAFA are exempt from SS registration.

However, if they separate from their service (or academy) before the age of 26 they are required to register within 30 days of their separation.

    Very funny. :thumb:

Too bad the posts and join date can't be changed or people might mistake it to be me (besides the ones I know are acting and are in on it of course). I'll let you and the moms have their fun though.

Do you seriously think it's one of the "moms" posing as you?? We are here to help the potential cadets and cadet appointees, not set them up to be fried! Most people have figured out you have a troll chasing you...it's not a mom, I am willing to bet. However, some of you guys really need to tone it down, especially the ones who have appointments. Some of you have all but said your name...some of you will be getting the attention you so crave. Please be sure to post in August and let those on here know how the "special attention" went for you--we're dying to hear!

Don't worry, not everyone is afraid of a challenge. I will make sure to post on A-Day just how wonderful the experience was. The harder the better.

    America's Finest,

I don't ordinarily post in threads such as this, but I feel the need. I was taken in by the imposter in the previous thread. I honestly thought, based on some of your previous posts, that it was you. I was hoping it was an ironic post, but I still believed it to be yours. You might ask yourself why this has happened. Your tendency to alienate others can have a detrimental affect on your time at USMA. You have stated on several occassions that it is not your deisre to be liked. I know you believe you are fully prepared come what may, but NO ONE gets through the place on their own -- it is a definite "cooperate and graduate" environment. It is unfortunate, but if your peers decide to make your life miserable, they are more than capable. I personally know of instances when the corps has decided they want someone gone -- and they make it happen. The same thing happens in Ranger School -- they call it getting "peered", and it happened to one of my son's '08 classmates with an attitude very similar to yours. Your rush to judgment on everyone concerning the troll just reinforces this. It was a childish prank, but maybe you should ask yourself if you have left yourself open to it. I don't want this to come off as an attack, just some well-intentioned advice to take a hard look at how you present yourself.

I know what you're warning me for but just know I adapt and act based on surroundings. It will be toned down a lot when the situation calls for it. So don't think this is how I always am. Your concern is appreciated.

It would have come via email; last year they were sent to the parents. It's this Sunday at Ft. McPherson...you won't have to worry about sending your car info in since your dad already had DoD stickers on it.

Slight correction. This year in addition to the email, there was a hard copy mailed to every cadet candidate to the address provided by USMA. In addition, I told your father about it when I spoke to him on the phone briefly earlier this spring (I am the Plebe-Parent Mentor for Georgia). You should also have received infomation about the Governors Send-Off and AOG Luncheon on 6/16. If you would like to come, the info is on the website at:

    http://www.west-point.org/parent/wppc-georgia/

Don't worry about the deadline -- we figured on a couple of extras. (It is at Fort Gillem, not Fort Mac.)
