Senator Flake - AZ - Nominations?

Reply

After my interview I was told that word would get out at the beginning of January. McCain's office has gotten back to me, however. Alas, the waiting game will be a while longer for Senator Flake

That is what my DS was told, too. I'm surprised it would take that long, since his office coordinates with McCain's office and since he has released his info, it seems like Flake could release his right afterwards.

At least for you, you don't have to worry about it anymore since you go that GREAT news from McCain already. Congratulations on realizing your dream! :thumb:

Senator Flake's nominations are out there as of two days ago.

DS received a letter from him indicating, "The members of Arizona's congressional delegation (senators and representatives) coordinate the service academy nominating process with one another to avoid nominating an applicant twice to the same academy." It goes on to say that credentials were worthy of nomination, but they were informed that he had already received a nomination from another member of the Arizona delegation and would not be giving him another nomination.

Just wanted to post this for future candidates so they would be aware of the process in AZ.

Has anybody in Arizona heard from Senator Flake's office or Senator McCain's office regarding nomination for class of 2020?

I would like to know the same thing? Has anyone heard from Senators Flake or McCain regarding nominations for class of 2020? Seems like word should be out by now.

Wishful and all other AZ candidates, DD received a letter today from Senator Flake with the following:

Your credentials were very worthy of a nomination. You indicated on your application that you preferred, as your first choice, a nomination to the U.S. AFA. I am advised that you have received a nomination to that academy from another member of the Arizona delegation. For this reason, and to avoid nominating you twice, you will not receive a nomination from my office to that particular academy.

So, for all other Arizona candidates, the MOC like to coordinate their service academy nominations with one another to avoid nominating an applicant twice to the same academy. This maximizes the number of Arizona students who ultimately receive academy nominations and the opportunity to attend a service academy.

Good luck to everyone as you continue to wait......and wait.....and wait.....;)

Arizona MOC's do coordinate, as shown above.

That's also the first "anything" I know of from Senator Flake...this cycle.

FalconsRock, thanks for the update. DS received a call from our congresswoman's committee about his nomination to the Air Force Academy last Monday. He had his interview with Senator McCain's and Senator Flake's nomination committees weeks ago, but he hasn't heard anything from either one. I guess based on what you say, DS doesn't need to wait for any new news on the nomination. Since his application was only completed 2 weeks ago, he will not hear until March then. Now the long wait until then. Good luck to your DD and everyone else.

I just want to clarify, that last year DS got the letter form Senator Flake's office. However, while did not receive a nomination from, he did receive nominations from both Senator McCain, as well as from our Representative. So, in our case, there was coordination between the Senators, but not with the representative. If you have not received a letter of declination, then it is still possible a Senatorial nomination could still have been given.

Senator McCain will mail out news @ Monday, December 14th...

Did your DS receive a NOM to the same SA or one from each for a different SA?

He got nominations to both USNA and USMA from our representative and then a nomination to USMA from Senator McCain. No nomination from Senator Flake. He also had Presidential nominations to both. In the end, he got appointments to both USMA and USNA and chose USMA.

Congratulations to your DS. You must be bursting with pride. I hope he is doing well at the USMA.

Update: DS got a call about the nomination from our congresswoman's committee a couple weeks ago (but has not received the nomination letter yet), a rejection letter from Senator Flake, and has not heard from Senator McCain's office. Reading through the forum about nomination showing up in the portal, he checked and his portal showed nomination from both the Congresswoman and Senator McCain. We don't know if double nomination will increase his chance for an appointment, but we are hopeful. Since his application did not show "complete" until Dec 1 due the LOA interview, does it mean that he will not find out about the good news (appointment) or terrible news (no appointment) until March or later?

Congrats on the nominations. Having two will increase his chances for an appointment, however it is not guaranteed. You may have to wait until March, but no one can really answer that. The waiting is extremely hard. I wish your DS the best of luck.

Well, I don't know how this happened. But DD received a nomination from Senator McCain today. I guess it's true that the senator's coordinate with each other, but the reps do not coordinate with them. So, don't give up hope in AZ.

DD just received her letter from Congressman Gosar, Dist. 4. Nominations for USAFA, USNA, USMA. She is a re-applicant.
