Hello, I thought this was the best place to go for this question (besides my ALO,I am still awaiting an email) my senior class schedule is going to be as follows:
    AP English
    AP physics C
    AP statistics
AP biology (or AP human geography?)
    AP government
    IB music composition and theory

I was originally going to take calculus b/c,but with physics, and government (notoriously difficult classes at my highschool) I don't think I could handle the course workload, plus part time job, coaching, etc etc :)
Any guidance here would be so appreciated, I'm very excited to be in the last years of highschool, working towards the goal of serving my country.
Also, does the academy accept AP test credit?

    Thank you in advance,
    Stephanie

That is quite the course load you have there. It looks to me like you're set on the academics side. If you can handle all of those classes and get good grades then that puts you in good standing. I believe USAFA does accept AP and IB test credit; most of the scores they accept however have to be in the 4 or 5 range. good luck next year!

I agree, but you need calc... That's a must. Drop stats or English and take calc. Physics, calc, and chem are must. I'd say personally physics and chem are interchangeable, both are said to be troublemakers at the academy, but I can't emphasize enough how important a math class is! Stats is able to be validated yes, but it's not one of those courses that the academy raises an eyebrow to!

Taking Calc BC instead of Stats is not going to significantly effect your course load with all of those APs you are taking.

I'd say at a technical school like USAFA, Calc BC would be much more beneficial to take.

And USAFA does accept AP test credit but some courses still require a written test to be taken during BCT

Take Calc over Stats. (You could probably drop Gov, if you needed to.)
Calc classes at USAFA are much more important than stats classes. For 2010, Calc I/II/III were fresh/soph classes and required for most techie majors. Stats is a core requirement as well, but nowhere near as important for most cadets (especially non-techies). USAFA calc classes put people on academic probation with some regularity...stats, not nearly as many.

Yes, I am a Senior right now, and I have taken BC, Gov, US history, Lit, Lang, Bio, and Chem. My school does not offer physics! Kind of weird... I would say drop stats and physics... and maybe even the music thing if its gonna take time. Remember, the academics are only a portion of your application, you need to keep up with community service, physical training, and leadership. I sacrificed football my senior year to get my eagle scout and tutor Calculus AB kids. If you have regular physics at your school, take that. You will most likely not score high enough to get AFA credit. The language and literature credits are a total steal! Take those and skip the lame freshman writing classes at the Academy. Unless music is just really easy, skip it and take a weights class. The strength portions of the CFA are really important for Women ( I figure that you are a women by your alias, pardon me if I am wrong.). I hope that helps. Just remember, Stats are a joke, physics you will have to take anyway (might as well get familiar with the material so it is not a shock during the AFA), and music doesn't even come close to the priority of a weights class. However, I am taking a guitar class, because I love to jam, and it simply relieves my stress. To make up for that, I do P90X at home. You just have to keep yourself well rounded! Don't get caught up with college credit! YOU NEED TO LEARN! (sorry if there are any mispellings)

    thanks for the help!
this year I took 4 ap classes, ap English, ap psychology, ib math ,and ib music theory year 1. On top of that, I took chemistry and anatomy, and was able to pull a 3.6 unwtd or 4.5 wtd gpa.

If I kept this course load,I could probably handle it...so would it be beneficial to drop stats and take calc b/c (an ap course as well) since took chem this year (and last) would this look better?
    AP English
    AP gov
Ap human geography ( a somewhat hard class, but not as hard as bio)
    AP physics
    Ap calc bc
    IB music theory and comp

this is harder than I thought it would be...

Much better! In my opinion if anything needa to change to lighten the load, take an easier english, or let go of the music and pick up some PE class. IMHO though do not, do not, do not, get rid of physics or calc. They go hand in hand. And now that I think about it, you shouldn't be able to take physics c without calc BC, seeing as it's calc based! Even more reason it's imminent you take it! I'd say calc helps me understand physics, and physics helps me apply calc, tus giving me a in-depth feel and learning for it! I hope this helps!

I agree with Falcon15 on physics and calc going together.
Does your school have AP Calc AB? Just if you're worried about course load. No reason in taking an accelerated Calc course if you're worried about all the other classes, taking Calc AB would be at a more comfortable pace to grasp and master the concepts. But it's all up to how you feel about it, if math's your thing, you can do it.
*P.S. keep in mind you can always drop BC to AB (if your school has it), but it's not as realistic to upgrade AB to BC during the year.

Everything else looks good. Another school specific thing, but if your school offers AP Environmental Science, I'd recommend that over AP Human Geo. Human Geo's an underclassmen class at my high school, and I hear some colleges don't even give credit for passing that exam. I think Human Geo is a social studies/history credit, and AP ES is a science credit, so that can also influence decision.

Take it easy your senior year though. Don't be a lazy student that takes 5 electives and gets to leave early, but don't kill yourself either to show off to schools. Schools like to see your Junior year classes a lot, because they actually have final grades from those. The AFA just likes to see that you're not being lazy your Senior year, so it's a good time to just prepare for future courses in college. They also like to see 7th semester grades too though, so make sure you can keep up with a heavy course load.
