My DS just received a call to meet a senior midshipman to go over any questions and to meet. Is this a good sign or common?

Who was this call from? Your B&G Officer or someone else?

If it was just from your Blue & Gold Officer then its probably just him or her wanting your DS to talk with someone who is currently at the academy to ask any specific questions. Nothing really out of the ordinary.

No it was from a senior at the naval academy. My ds already met his b&g officer

Any comment from a B&G officer? OPINFO Mid visits during Thanksgiving break...

I know this is part of the OPINFO program. The real question is: Is the more a benefit to the current Mid (to get a little extra time at home) who participates in meeting current candidates?

How do the candidates get selected to meet with the Mid? Is it for any/all candidate(s) in the Mid's hometown/area or is it something targeted at candidates Admissions has identified for the Mid as part of OPINFO?

Which gets to the posters question... Is this a positive sign for the candidate?

Thanks in advance!

OPINFO is program in which top performing mids (good grades, good military standing and recommended by his/her company officer) get a few extra days over the Thanksgiving day break to meet and talk with candidates, potential candidates, and their parents. They can be one-on-one meetings, small groups, part of an Academy Day, or whatever can be arranged. A lot of the Mids do this in conjunction with a BGO in their hometown who have a current crop of candidates working their way through the process.

An invite to meet with a Mid does not mean some Academy foo-foo dust is settling on a candidate nor does it mean he/she is special or getting a boost in the appointment process. But it IS a fantastic opportunity for a candidate to get some information about the Academy straight from the horse's mouth and the horse is not low performer either. Very few candidates get this personal look at where they want to go and to pass it up is foolish. The candidate should also remember that this is a pair of Academy eyes looking at them and many of the Mids have a great relationship with the local BGO and the two often compare notes as to how the candidate came across and their motivation. So while it is primarily a great opportunity for the candidate, they should be aware that they are being looked at as to what kind of Mid and Naval Officer they would make too.

My DD got two emails from from two different Mids offering to meet while they were home to answer questions. One of the Mids asked for her phone number so he could call her and the other just said to let him know if she had questions. She replied with her phone number to the requesting Mid, and responded to the other one that she really had no questions because the B&G Officer, Coach, and an Alum from our church had pretty much covered everything.

Not really an indication of anything. My son is meeting with a senior from the Naval Academy next week. He is a graduate of our high school and is meeting with anyone interested in the Naval Academy.
