Senior Year Classes

Hello All,

I am a rising senior who was planning on taking IB Chemistry this coming school year. Unfortunately, I found out from my counselor today that it looks like this class will only be offered the same class period as my sport. I could stay in the class, but this would mean that I would have to go on contract, miss practices, and have a free period in the middle of the day.

I'm not particularly in favor of this option since I am the varsity team captain and feel it's my duty to be present at practices. That said, my other option would be to switch into IB/AP Biology. My only problem with this is that I thought the academies preferred classes like chem and physics over biology.

Any insight into what I should do? Thanks for the help.

I say you're fine with biology. Do well enough and you might just be able to validate instead of having to take it at USAFA. I had to take "college writing" instead of an AP english class due to scheduling conflicts in my senior year and it ended up being a great decision (I also didn't even take a full course load my senior year, opting to have a couple free periods to allow myself to focus on tennis without sacrificing my grades in the classes that mattered, like AP calculus). Granted, I am not admissions, but it is still an AP class, and I definitely think you should be there for your team.

Thanks USAFA10s! I think I'm leaning towards taking biology, but I'm going to speak with my counselor just to be sure.
