My son, 2019 hopeful, is eligible for a service connected nomination because my husband is active duty. We read the online information and printed off the example letter. Should we use that exact template and mail it in? It seems too simple. My husband is deployed until the fall and we don't want to wait until he's home to get started. My son will attend SLE as well. I'd love some guidance! Thanks.

Yes, it is that simple. Print the form, sign it, attach the documentation, and then send it to admissions. They'll do the rest to put it in DS's file.

A piece of advice is don't stop there on nominations. Since it is that simple and so many people qualify, it can be very challenging to get in solely on that nomination. Compete for the congressional nominations. This will take a little more work - especially on the front end. Since your husband is active duty, I imagine you don't live where you are registered to vote. I suggest that you gather up the info on 1) which congressional district/state you are in now, 2) same for where you call home/registered to vote, 3) same for your husband's home of record, and then call into/email DS's RC and have a discussion of where he should apply from. Then you'll need to call those representatives to see if you meet their qualification for being domiciled. I've seen it where candidates are better off applying from where they are stationed (like an AF base in ND) and where it is not (some DC-area suburbs where it is the most competitive in the country). Only your RC can point you in the right direction on this one, and then the rest of the legwork to make the nominations happen is yours.

Thanks for your help. We are definitely applying for other nominations, this is just a place to start. And when I emailed my husband the document they needed, his response was "what?" Kind of funny.
