I know this may sound like a dumb question, but how do you email the form directly from the document? I realize I can turn in a hardcopy, but it's so much easier to simply type up my answers and send it via email straight away. It says on the instructions page that I can email it directly from the document....but I can't figure out how since I can't save it and attach to an email or anything.
I guess I'm just not too tech savvy. Help would be appreciated, thank you!

I don't think it is possible to email even though the instructions say otherwise. We typed the form then hit email before saving (you can't save) and we got an email back saying the form was blank. It also told us to "save as" to our desktop then send. That didn't work either. We will type again for the third time, print, and then just fax.

You would have to print and scan- then FAX/e-mail the entire doc. My DS used the online .pdf, printed and sent back in the envelope received this week.

We had the same issues last year with emailing the form. DS just completed it then printed it out and we mailed it in. Perhaps printing it out completed then scanning it into a new document, email as attachment?

I received an e-mail about a week ago from our regional technician saying you needed to save it as a PDF to your desktop to be able to save any changes you made it for whatever worth that is

We ARE allowed to just fill in via pen the blank form they mailed us, right? Because I just went ahead and did that instead of trying to figure out how to save/email the PDF. Although I suppose it would've been just as easy to type/print/mail the thing as opposed to pen it in...I just didn't think of any of that.

Last year, my son used the PDFcreator printer driver to save the completed form as a PDF. Can also use the Adobe PDF printer driver if you have Acrobat. I helped him with this as there was no way to "Save as" a PDF using last year's form and instructions. There also was no way to suspend completion; it had to be completed in one session.

Once completed, he then printed a version for his own personal file, and mailed one in as requested.

Sometime during this past semester, he revisited this completed, submitted form and was asked for additional info for the security clearance process.

PDFcreator is a free printer driver available at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

To answer the problem with saving. If you are using a free version of Adobe Reader, you will not be able to save and email the SF-86 form. You must have a registered/purchased version of Adobe Reader/Acrobat in order to save the form.
