Howdy,

I am making this post in hopes that I can unearth some information regarding shooting at the Naval Academy. I am applying to be accepted into the class of 2015 at this time. I take part in local shooting competitions including three gun, IDPA and skeet. So, as can be imagined, shooting is my favored hobby.

I am aware that you take part in marksmanship training at the Naval Academy; however I am curious to know if there are opportunities beyond that to shoot at USNA. Can a plebe or midshipman go out to the shooting range on the weekends or when they have spare time? Is the USNA shooting range on the USNA campus? How does ammunition distribution work? Are there opportunities to take part in local three gun and IDPA competitions?

Thanks in advance,
John

even though you placed sport within parenthesis I would have tried to title this thread a bit differently. From the forum board all I could see was "Shooting at the Naval Academy".... but all is well, no harm done

There is a Rifle Varsity Sport (http://www.navysports.com/sports/c-rifle/navy-c-rifle-body.html) and I think they might have a club sport, too.

As far as on your own practice, unless I stand corrected, the NSA Annapolis range (which is across the Severn River from USNA) is not available for recreational use. You would have to find one in the area and shoot on your own time.

You also would probably need to submit a chit or at least talk to your chain of command, since the use of a firearm is an "inherently dangerous activity" (normally Battalion Officer approval).

Please fix title of thread

This takes your breath away when you cannot see sport. Someone please fix.

The sport is called "Rifle Team."

In my first draft I had stated that I was aware of the "rifle team." This didn't make it into the final submitted draft. I am looking for high-powered type rifle, not air rifle. I apologize for not being more clear. Also, the title worked out to be too long and I do not have the power to edit the title once the post was initially submitted. I apologize for the shock it has created for some.
