I am applying for ROTC scholarship and have been reading on army eye standards but they are quite confusing.

My left eye is a lazy eye and gets crossed sometimes. I have the option to have strabismus surgery and correct it. Besides that my good eye is 20/20 and the bad one should be 20/40.

Do you think I should get the surgery done or is having that done worse than the condition.

Thanks

I can't answer your question. The best avenue to get an answer to your question is to go to DODMERB itself. Some years ago, a gentleman named Larry Mullen (deputy director of DODMERB) was quite active on the forums. He no longer posts here but a recent post suggested that you go to the following web site to get a good overview of the process:

https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/

In particular, click on the tab on the right "Questions about the Process" and you will receive a good overview of the process as well as a few avenues for having your questions answered. I believe Mr. Mullen also included his e-mail address on the document if the general e-mail address for questions is not answered.

There is also a service at DODMERBconsultants.com, which may help, but I can't vouch for them and there may be a fee involved. It apparently is run by a former DODMERB director. I would initally try the first avenue and try to get in touch with Mr. Mullen. Be sure you can accurately articulate all of your issues.

Good Luck.
