Since this year for appointments is winding down, and before next yr starts spinning up. I wonder if we should ask for A Liasion section like Dodmerb.

Many applicants ask questions that are really admission questions. Although, many of us can give vague and personal experience, I think it would be great if there was board just for those questions that any candidate can quickly go on.

There also might be posters with military experience that might like to know about this program and how to volunteer, thus the posters with this experience could help directing them.

Just wondering if we have any poster that fits these parameters and would like to see it?

Also as a parent, candidate would it appeal to you if we could get our posters with that experience to volunteer to answer the typical questions that they face?

Our DS had a very hands on ALO, while our friends sons' ALO was non-existent. The Mom would call me and ask us to ask him. I always referred her to this site and CC, but it can be intimidating as a lurker to try to find your actual question, while it would be easy for a lurker to just look into a Liasion thread.

Okay I gave my sales pitch, it's time for your opinions!

Forgetting anyone?

For those who understand that there are more than just 3 academies, the US Coast Guard Academy calls them Academy Admissions Partners (AAPs) and the US Merchant Marine Academy calls them Admissions Field Representatives (AFPs).

USCGA - Academy Admissions Partners are volunteers (active duty, retired, alumni, parents of cadets, and USCG Auxiliary) who communicate with high school counselors, teachers, parents, and prospective candidates the benefits of the education provided by the Academy, represent the Academy at local college fairs, conduct applicant interviews, and present appointments at high school graduations.

USMMA - Admissions Field Representatives are alumni and parents from throughout the nation who volunteer to assist the Academy in attracting highly motivated, well-qualified candidates who are sincerely interested in pursuing careers in the maritime and transportation industries.

PS - And for the record, IMHO I don't think it needs to be in a separate section.

MY BAD...I just didn't know the acronym for CGA and MMA.

Again I only suggest it so that a newcomer with a particular question about the admission process can get a more definitive answer from the liasons.

Yes

... Just wondering if we have any poster that fits these parameters and would like to see it? ...

As a member only since Nov '08, it has taken me a while to get a sense of some of the more prolific posters and to fully appreciate their points of view.

Having a section devoted to questions and responses posted to vetted Academy Reps would be useful, but could quickly become clogged.

As has been mentioned, there is a range in the quality of service provided by these folks. Some are going to be better than others. I'd hope that most would follow the axiom, that if you don't know, you find out, or at least be quiet.

I don't know about the "others" but I'd be willing to help out with USAFA ALO questions as I am one.

I think that right now the individual service academy sections are for questions from academy life to admissions. The reason we have sections like Academy/Military News and DoDMERB is because the individual academy sections are for questions specific to individual academies, such as admissions.

If our more knowledgeable and official contributors would like a short biography posted, I would be happy to add a sticky thread in each academy forum for that purpose.

Perhaps I don't understand the question, but I don't see a need which is not being met at this time by the forums available. Our goal is always to help our members get the answers to their questions, so I'm open to further explanation.
