I have recently had shoulder surgery due to shoulder dislocations. It was an arthroscopic bankart repair. Would this keep me from service in the military? Would I need to get a waiver or what? I plan on participating in rotc next year, would it jeopardize that? Thanks

Arthroscopic knee surgery for dislocation was not dead-end for my DS in AROTC. He did have to jump through some addl 'hoops' with DODMERB and eventually received a waiver from the Medical folks at Cadet HQ.
In anticipation of the need to document, gather copies of your Dr's reports/records (ask for two copies, one to send, one to keep for you). And anticipate the need for a completely clean/no restriction/ is already participating in all the usual sports letter.

My doctor mentioned he had worked on many cadets before. I was just wondering if for some reason I would be turned down. Also could the surgery disable me to join like say the army but still join the navy or marines?

The way it works is DoDMERB qualifies or disqualifies by the regulations set forth from DoD. The branches are the ones to determine if a waiver will be granted. It is possible Army says no and AF says yes.
