I'm on the wrestling team at my school, and they just recently made it a rule that EVERYONE has to shower IMMEDIATELY after practice. No exceptions. Now, I take a shower as soon as I get home anyway, but they said I still had to take one at school. I didn't exactly WANT to take a shower with other people, but I DEFINITELY don't want to quit the team just because of this. What should I do?

I agree with mike...if you go to an academy/military college...you're going to be showering with a bunch of people. I would just shower after practices with everyone else...it's not that big of a deal and it is definitely not worth losing a spot on your wrestling team

Hopefully your school explained that the reason for the mandatory showers is to prevent the spread of MRSA, a highly contageous, potentially deadly communicable disease. Many state governing bodies for student athletes have adopted similar recommendations.

If you have a good or private reason not to take showers with everyone else, i would either talk to the coach or have your parents talk to the coach or principal.

Ussally with wrestling herpes and ringworm are the bigger worries, however I agree if you're going into the military get comfortable with public nudity.

over CGA swab summer our shower was a 12ft by 12ft box with a doorway sized entryway and 4 showerheads. 8 minutes to get 25 guys showered and changed, needless to say we bonded rather quickly.

i do realize that in high school its kind of embarrassing because its new, but you just have to get over it. if you're worried about people talking about what you've got then just ask them why they're looking....

Texmom and Kero are right - wrestlers commonly get ringworm and herpes and there is also a danger with MRSA now too.

It is very important that you shower right after you get off the mat. If I was the coach I would not trust my wrestlers to shower after they got home. Not only that, you don't want to be spreading a skin disease to your family. Hopefully your school is disinfecting your mats too.

As far as modesty goes - get over it.

Okay, I know this thread is about complete, but thought it was funny so mentioned it to my son over dinner and just had to share his response. When I told him the OP's question, his (non politically correct) response was:

"Tell him to grow a pair - and then show them off in the shower!"

Evidently, he agrees with the "get over it" responses!

    Sheesh.

And I thought three guys in one shower stall for 60 seconds was bad!

Try it in a Quonset hut turned into a barracks on top of a mountain in Oregon @ about 20 below. Turn on the hot water on all four for about 15 minutes and then find your way through the fog.:shake:

Throw in the Elk, Coyotes, Jackrabbits, sagebrush, crazy cowboys off the ranch in town once a month, (especially after roundup) Paiute reservation and you might have a real potboiler. Porno or Horror. Take your choice. Change a few words and you can have either, or both. Maybe I'll write a book. "Insanity On The Range"

We used to have to do it at my old school. Just stare at the floor, get it done quickly, but thoroughly(You don't want MRSA, Ringworm, Impetigo, etc).
It's more or less a necessary evil, and besides, the sooner you shower, the less of a chance of some kind of disqualifying infection. So just go with it.

I kinda see where your coming from with not wanting to shower with others. One problem with taking a shower with other people is that (at least from what I've seen at the high school level), people play too much and sometimes can't handle their little immature selves. Hopefully the academies and the military in general don't tolerate that foolishness, ehh?

Thats what the issue was. But, I figured the whole thing out two days after I wrote this so it's fine now. I don't think they tolerate it. I guess someone would have to tell them about it though.
