My DS is at VMI in MO NROTC but does not have a mo nrotc scholarship. His advisor suggest that side load scholarships may be available. Does anyone have any idea how many side load slots VMI may have for mo nrtoc, especially now with all these cut-backs on the horizon? Do the SMCs get more side loads than regular rotc units?

Your cadet can get direct, accurate information from the nrotc unit at vmi.
I was in attendance recently at open house event and heard the acting nrotc commander this year (was the XO -unusual occurance, but new CO will be arriving coming summer as i recall)
The Commander stated the impressed numbers of both navy and marine scholarship cadets that had picked up $$ for last year. I can not accurately quote the numbers, but something like 200 awards available nationwide, vmi's unit had something along lines of 11 received (out of 13 or so that wanted) and the marine numbers were as impressive. I swear he spoke in terms of better than 90% of those seeking $$ had been sucessful.
Your cadet could get the facts from NROTC unit - I believe that all assigned cadets have an advisor (different each year) or you could call the unit for detailed information.
I am sorry I cant quote exact numbers.

Larrys mom. I was at parents weekend but couldn't get down to Lexington in time for the rotc presentations. Those numbers are really encouraging! Thanks for sharing. I will ask my DS to follow up. His advisor told us over the weekend that he wasn't personally involved with scholarships but he thought my DS had a good shot at it. Since we are out of state, that would be most helpful!

That is good to know... DS told me they will start the side load applications in January. He believes it is because 1st semester grades will be out by then which makes sense.
