SLE acceptance

What the previous poster said is very true. My Field Force Officer told me that they *may* begin acceptances today, and the candidate portals will be updated later today *if* they are updated at all.

but wouldnt admissions keep their word about releasing info/acceptances today?

This is unchartered territory - if admissions doesn't have the authorization, then they can't send out SLE acceptances even if they want to. Goes back to the, do you want an acceptance only to have the event canceled or would you rather wait. Don't look at the negative, look at the positive - this is your chance to update your file with awards, new positions, test scores that can be taken into consideration that you wouldn't have had the chance to otherwise. Last year, SLS (the former name) was essentially filled by the middle of February.

2018 - don't expect to hear anything today on SLE - mid/late March is likely a more realistic timeframe with sequestration just going into effect, it will take some time for the ripple to reach WP and for them to finalize what is going to happen.

Even though they said the first wave was being sent out today?

"Announcement Regarding Summer Leader Experience:
(7 Feb 2013) - Due to current federal budget restrictions and our ongoing planning during this predicament, SLE offers will not be made until 1 March 2013. If the remote possibility of SLE cancellation occurs, an announcement will be made by 1 March 2013. If cancellation were to occur, in addition to social media platforms, each applicant will be sent an email. Thanks to all for your patience."

Note "until"; it does not say SLE offers will be made ON 1 March, only not until then. It hasn't been cancelled (yet), but it may also be scaled back. And that was forecasting almost a month ago, when there was hope of avoiding sequestration.

Be productive - don't dwell on the negative. Time is a luxury that you won't often have, so use it wisely.

on the usma summer programs website says, " The offer rounds will now be 1 March and 1 April. After April 1st, it will be on a space available basis to competitive qualified candidates."
I just want to find out

Yea I doubt anything is coming out today, although it does give me time to do other things. I just (2 days ago) recently applied for NASS so maybe that will get here before the SLE decision does . Whatever the case, I just hope I can attend the programs to at least see what it is like there.

Would ya look at that:

(1 Mar 2013) - Due to current federal budget restrictions and our ongoing barracks renovation planning, SLE offers will not be made until 4-7 March 2013. Offers will be via email, with information posted on each candidate's portal as well. If the remote possibility of SLE cancellation occurs, an announcement will be made by 7 March 2013. If cancellation were to occur, in addition to social media platforms, each applicant will be sent an email. Thanks to all for your patience.

SLE Only 1 Week?

"All students waiting for SLE offers - here's an update. We are getting closer, but we are not offering yet. Currently, it looks like we will offer one session, from 1-7 June 2013, 500 attendees. Next week, I am told that I will be able to offer."

One week...hmmm. Hopefully this will not be the case and 2 weeks will be offered.

Hmmm. Aren't most high schools still in session June 1 - 7? Doesn't sound like an ideal time for it... not that it impacts me in any way.

Think that depends where you are. Most schools down south get out in May.

Evidently NC isn't far enough south. But my point is lots of folks will not be able to take the opportunity at that time. I'm sure they'll fill their slots but geographic distribution may be a problem.

I'm in CT, the date is going to be a little troublesome because my school ends on the 22nd or later because of all the storms this year. Not as bad as other times though.

Don't think geographic will be an issue. Plenty of kids from California attend every year when they are still in session - either arranging to take their exams early or in another fashion. Just got to be creative and persuasive.

Several GA candidates are itching to hear; yes, we're out before Memorial Day...but we go back in early August...it's crazy.

I agree with you. There will be some areas of the country where the kids will not be out of school by June 1. In those cases, yes...they could ask the school and try and work around things.
However, they MIGHT decide (if they have both options) to attend USAFA or USNA instead if those options are offered to them with later dates and no school conflicts.
USCGA AIM may also benefit from this as they are a July event. Some without it on their radar may think again.

Jury is not out yet...perhaps USMA will, when all is said and done, be offering 2 sessions of SLE.

A lot of folks will be in prep for finals or actually in final exams that week. If Army is cutting back here, you can bet the other academies will as well. As I said, this is no impact to me, but if they're going to spend the money, wouldn't you expect them to spend it wisely and choose more workable dates? That's part of the reason we're in this boat.

Latest info on the FFE Admissions portal.
Attendees will be announced 4-7 March. In the event SLE is cancelled, people will be notified by email no later than Thursday 7 March.

I do not think they will cancel SLE but they might reduce it to one session of 500 people.

SLE is very selective. In my district we have two people who have offers this year who were turned-down for SLE last summer.
