Has anyone who is going to SLS this summer been notified of which courses they are taking, or we figure out the courses to which we are assigned once we get there?

I may have missed where they tell us this in the acceptance packet, but I looked through the general instructions form and it wasn't there. I know a few of the courses(chemistry being one of them) require special preparation with contacts, etc. so wouldn't it make sense for attendees to be told what to prepare for?

At all 3 summer seminars (including SLS) my son went to last summer, he found out his classes when he checked in on the first day. You won't have classes that day, so you'll know to take out contacts, wear certain clothes (some required long pants), etc. before you go to that class.

Thank you for the info. I just wanted to make sure a piece of mail wasn't lost or anything.

No, there was nothing in the mail about the courses. I didn't receive anything regarding the courses in early January with my acceptance notification, and the last I did anything with them was with the workshop preferences when I first applied in December.

And thank you for clearing that up marciemi, that's good to know. I just hope I managed to get into at least one my top 3 choices.

I wouldn't worry about it too much - all the classes will be equally entertaining. My son got most of what he had requested at SLS and AF SS, but at Navy got some that were definitely low on his list (no way he would have requested YP boats or Language Arts), but actually ended up enjoying those classes as much or more than the math/science/engineering ones he was looking forward to. Although I think some of it was after three SS's, you can only do so much to make math exciting and different!

for people who havent submitted their preferences yet, i recommend history. if it is the same deal as last year (which isnt guarenteed) it involves taking a boat to constitution island and hiking around while learning the history surrounding west point.
