I am just curious, and I intend to ask this in USAFA and USNA forum also:

    1. Did you have a preference for which academy you wanted attending before going to the SLS programs of the other service academies?

    2. Did your attendance there change your mind about your preference?

    3. What do you like about the particular academy you prefer?

I knew I wanted to go to west point or annap before sls.
after west point's sls, i knew without a shake of doubt where i wanted to be. usma has a certain camaraderie and academic rigor that is not found in the other academies, i think. it's about people, rather than planes, boats or subs.

all in my humble opinion, of course :)
    go army!

I was debating between AFA/USMA before SLS. I was leaning a little towards AFA. However, after SLS and USAFA SS, West Point is my number one by far. I loved the camaraderie, structure, and the sense of duty. USAFA seemed too much like a civilian college: laid back. The buildings were too modern for me and compared to USMA SLS, USAFA SS was very unorganized. At WP, the cadre always did PT and punishment with us whereas at USAFA, there were cadre standing around and chatting during PT.

I agree 100%. AF seemed really unorganized, and we never even recieved a tour of the campus. Our tour time was taken up by watching Family guy.

The only difference for me was before, I was 100% AF and now am 100% west point.

Son was 100% USNA before all three, and is now more than ever. His experience at each seems somewhat different than those posted, which I deduce as being 1) his pre-determination and 2) squad/element leaders attitudes. I do not wish to be negative about any of the SA's summer seminars, but if these are meant in any way to "recruit", there should be some serious consideration to the cadets chosen to be squad/element leaders.

Obviously you haven't visited all five of them.

Try an academy with only 975 total cadets (and a total military branch strength of only 40,000 active duty worldwide) and you'll find the one that's all about "people."

    :unhappy::unhappy::unhappy:

I'm sure she meant "all three that he applied to" because I'm certain she knows that there are FOUR summer sessions at the FIVE US Service Academies.

Seems he missed out on the best one.

I'm trying to understand this. You are choosing a service academy partly based off of the buildings and the way squad leaders did PT at a summer seminar? You realize your time spent at a service academy is not even half of your total service commitment even if you were to do five and dive?

    right on both counts, luigi!

I did mean the three seminars he applied to! And he has considered all five SA's, and he unfortunately didn't know about AIM until his summer schedule was already full, AND we are all lamenting that he didn't apply to AIM rather than AFA, AND he IS applying to USCGA! Thank you luigi for clarifying for me!

Don't take it personally, it's kind of a running joke here with me. :shake:

He sounds like an outstanding candidate who will succeed wherever he ends up.
