Whats up guys? I was wondering about SLS. Can someone tell me what it is and will it benefit my acceptance into USMA? Also, I am a sophomore. What should I do and how do I get into SLS?

USMAcandidate,

SLS is a week-long seminar at West Point during June. It is a great opportunity to see the Academy, interact with current Cadets, meet other Candidates, take the Candidate Fitness Assessment, and see how you are stacking up to begin the admissions process.

You apply for SLS in December of your junior year. The SLS application isnt too difficult, but it does require an ACT/SAT score or a PSAT score.

Basically, it's a week long program at West Point to give Juniors a first hand experience of West Point. There is PT, academic workshops, and military classes.

It won't directly help you in receiving an appointment, but it will be sure to play a key role in your decision of pursuing West Point or not. You wouldn't be marked down for not attending, in example.

SLS it seems is mainly academic based. Having high SAT and/or ACT scores would have a great effect.

Definitely go to it if you can.

But keep in mind, you get evaluated by your squad leaders so it can either help if you are a good fit or can hurt if you are not very fit for the academy in their eyes
