Hello, I am 15 years old currently, and it is my goal to make it to West Point and become an officer in the U.S. Army. a bit about myself is I am 6'3, I play football and weigh 160 pounds (dont worry about that though, I am working on getting to about 210 in muscle mass by my senior year, maybe more depending on height, and I am not planning on getting recognized via football)

My dad served active duty in the army for 20 some years and retired a Lt. Colonel, Ive always looked up to him, but he has nothing to do with me wanting to go to West Point. This is something I want to do to become a leader of men and be the best me I can be for both myself and my country.

As for some information on my character, to be truthful with you, I have had a trouble with quitting in the past, setting standards too high and such. I had quit my first year of football and it was one of my biggest regrets. From that point, I realized, thats not the person or man that I want to be, since I quit last year, I have constantly been bettering myself to prepare both mentally and physically for next season. I have repaired relationships with my teammates, and I am done not following through, I want to be a leader, and leaders lead by example, which I know and strive to be the best I can be.

Ive been in the weight room and hitting my calories daily now and feel very good about my progress (just need to find a way to implement cardio into the bulking process, any tips please let me know)

Academically, this year has been rough, I've bottomed out with the worst GPA I have ever had at 3.5, but have constantly been raising it. I took AP European history this year, and due to the school I go to (small private school) that was the only one available. I may take classes this summer. Next year I will take AP U.S. history and honors English.

tl;dr Any tips for how I can accomplish my goal of getting to West Point?

How old must I be to apply to summer seminar? (I know its too late now)

There are weight restrictions in the military. You have to be at least 6'6 to weigh 210.

I don't understand one thing in your post. You say you are a football player and you also say that you quit football. So are you a football player or were you a football player?

Start studying for the ACT/SAT and keep your grades up. Academics are 60% of your application.

I don't think there is an age requirement for SLE. To my knowledge people can only go in the summer before their senior year.

Dang even if its all muscle? You need to be pretty lean then, I knew there were restrictions but I didn't think it'd be an issue, no problem, I'll probably aim for 180-190 then, probably best that it be that way any way, but then again, I may just be 6'6 ;)

As for football, I quit one season, but I that doesn't mean I quit the sport, I am doing it now yes. Sorry for being confusing, I definitely see how that was poorly thought out on my part.

Thank you for your advice

I would add that you'll need something specific in your resume that reflects leadership. So, are you in any clubs? Can you take on a leasership role in these clubs next year? It goes without saying that you should aim for team captain in your sport if at all possible. Aim for academic honors (like being on the honor roll) and this summer, practice SAT/ACT skills.

THe WP website lists some helpful advice for students who are interested in WP. My son followed that advice.

I will run for ASB this year and I am in a club at my school called SLi (student learning institute) where we have leaders from the community come speak to us and we log in community service hours from that, I am blessed to have that opportunity at my school. I should be able to make the cabinet for SLi next year.
As for football, I do not see me being captain this year, but I may come from out the cuts. However, I do have a great relationship with the coach, but I definitely see it happening senior year

@Will2k17 there are height/weight guidelines; however, if you are over the weight limit for your height, they will tape you. This is how muscular, fit individuals get by with the weight restrictions - notice the body fat percentages. Don't worry about this now. Just go out and play your sports, get involved in clubs, pull up your GPA, and prepare for the PSAT (assuming you are a sophomore about to rise to junior year next year).

Will do, thank you very much

You have fantastic potential! 6 foot 3 inch, bulk up and you can definitley do it!
Thank you very much, and yes I am working on it!
People like you keep this fire burning
As do all who critique me in any way, but you see what I am attempting to say :)

Just got elected as VP of Spiritual Life for ASB for my junior year
(there is on president of this, but 2 VP's, one female and one male)
GPA now a 3.65
Football starts next week, weigh 165, in shape
Im excited!

Just wondering: how does football start in June? What are we talking here, weight room workouts? Here, in the football capitol of the world, high schools don't start actual practice till after July 4th, and I know there are some restrictions.

Correct, there are some restrictions. We have been working out all year. Next week, our first team practices begin, these are not what I would call true practices, just getting acquainted with the plays and your teammates.
Then, from June 20-27, we have a passing league, which is 7 on 7 no contact with other schools. We have 2 of those. The month of July is summer workouts with our conditioning coach, every day, similar to OTAs in that it's voluntary, all the passing leagues are too.
First week of August 2 a days start

And the reason for me quitting football last year by the way was because coach talked me into signing up mid September because of my height. I wasn't in shape, wasn't confident, hadn't been working out, and I wasn't mentally tough. I felt I was holding the team back (yes I do realize that is a terrible excuse as all excuses are, but that was truly how I felt.
However now, I feel great and I'm ready for the season :)

Despite our Homeschooler status, our local PS football coach "invited" my 13 year old son, who at the time was 6'2" and about 150# to come and play with the team. My son had watched football (we do live in the Steeler Nation, after all. Only communists don't WATCH the Steelers)(;')) but had never played. Because of his size, the coach said of my 13 year old 9th grader: he's ready for varsity! Um, hold on there. He was barely ready for JV.

Lesson: be careful. Because of your size, the coaches may be more willing to let you play against the big dogs before you are ready mentally, physically, and with the proper skills and experience.

I should be okay, I am close friends with the "big dogs" of our school and gladly will wrestle them, win or lose. But I do see where you are coming from, my concern is my knees getting chop blocked or busted out, but the safest way to avoid these things is to play as hard as you can every play
I cannot stress how much getting in the weight room has helped my confidence, I mean I cannot even begin.
