Social Life?

As a 4 degree, you are in your uniform pretty much 24/7 until recognition day. When you leave the academy for a day off down town, a long weekend, thanksgiving/christmas/etc..., you will be walking out that gate in your service dress uniform. It doesn't matter if you live 2 miles away in Colorado Springs; 150 miles away in Cheyenne Wyoming, or 1500 miles away in Pennsylvania. Now, once you get to your destination, do you have to continue to wear your uniform. There's 2 answers; "Yes" and "No". If you are fortunate enough to be one of the chosen that attends the air force academy, you'll learn the answer. As a 3,2, and 1 degree, or 4th degree after "R" day; you are not required to be in Uniform when you leave the base, unless it's an official function.

On leave, no.
On a day/night/weekend pass as a 4 degree, yes.

As an upperclassmen, only if you are on official business.

As a 4 degree, can you choose to wear either your service uniform or BDU when going out on leave or pass?

Nothing's changed.

As 4-degrees, we're required to wear Service Dress when we go out on a pass/leave. If it's a day/night/weekend pass to visit our sponsor family or somthing, we can change into PC gear once we reach their home. But if we leave their home, and go anywhere else in the Springs, we have to change back into Service Dress.

On leave...we must travel to/from the Academy in Service Dress. Once we reach home/our destination, I'm pretty sure we can wear civvies. :shake: Oh happy Day!

A buddy of mine just got out of basic and is in Colorado for Tech School I believe and he just told me all freshmen are not allowed to have cell phones and he got his taken away.....waaaahhh??

Huh??? Your buddy just got out of basic??? Air Force academy basic or active duty enlisted basic? Going to tech school in colorado? Obviously not the academy??? Freshman not allowed to have phones???? Enlisted personnel aren't "Freshman"; cadets aren't in "Tech School"; and cell phones aren't an issue with enlisted??? I guess I am having a brain fart day, but I have no idea what you're writing about. Sorry. Mike....

He finished Basic in August. He is in the Academy in Colorado, not Tech School. He told me freshmen are not allowed to have cell phones.

Ok; so he's a cadet. A freshman; aka "C4C" is allowed to have cell phones. It's just that each squadron has their own rules as to "WHEN" they are allowed. A lot will depend on your friend's flight and squadron. Whether they perform well or not. Whether their upper class cadets feel that they have "Earned" the privilege of having their cell phones. Some C4C received their cell phones back the 1st day after graduating BCT. (Basic Cadet Training). Others received their cell phone back on labor day weekend. So received them later. Same with many other privileges such as computer monitors, printers, and any number of other items. Each squadron is different.

When my son went to BCT, all trainees were required to turn in their cell phones. Being a recruited athlete, my son's football coach "Snatched" all of their cell phones from them PRIOR to in-processing. Then, when the trainees get their mid-training day off; (Doolie day out); most cadets go to their sponsor's house and they take turns using their phone to call home. The football players don't really have a sponsor family. They do, they just don't really use them. Instead, they went to the coaches houses. At which time, the coach already charged up all their phones the day before and let them all have their phones. Then, when doolie day was over, he collected up all their phones and help onto them again. A little bit of a perk? Yes. Then, after graduating BCT, "A-Day"; my son's squadron told them all they could have their phones immediately.

Each squadron is different. Each privilege is different. "Remember; a cell phone is a privilege, not a right". During the school year, cadets are authorized to carry their cell phones in their pockets in case of an accident or medical emergency. However; don't let your cell phone ring while in formation or class. Don't even want to discuss that. Hope that sort of explains that it's a squadron by squadron thing.

unfortunately, mine is still one of the ones lost from doolie day in. I've talked to people about trying to find it, but no word yet. It's pretty frustrating, got to tell you, especially this close to parent's weekend.
