I am now 3Q'd with 2 noms, one of them a principle nomination. My file is set to go before the board this week but I'm nervous about one thing. I was suspended from high school during my junior year for being in a school fight. Last year after I turned in my candidate data file in which I reported the incident, I received an email from USNA with follow up questions regarding what I had learned from the incident, etc.

This year, the academy has not contacted me for additional information so far. Is this a bad sign? Should I be worried?

Do you mind if I ask, how do you know for sure your file is going before the board this week?

The Academy starts sending letters out from Jan 31- April 15th, the majority recieve letters in feb and march, but still a few recieve thru april 15 and up until around june 15th.

    - I have no input on your suspension situation

I would assume they have all of the information regarding the incident that they need from what you provided last year and that, if they needed/need more info they would have/will contact you for it.

Do all BGO's know when your packet goes before the review board?

The basic answer to knowing when packets are going to the board - no! However, depending upon a multitude of factors, a given BGO may better aware of the timing of his/her candidates' files going before the board. On occasion Admissions will contact an AC or BGO to obtain specific information from or about a candidate before the packet goes before the board. Sometimes we just get an educated gut feeling that proves to be accurate. But, generally speaking, the Board does not announce the schedule of packets to be reviewed.

Thanks to you all for the responses.
Do you think I should voice my concern about this incident to my BGO? I brought it up to him in my first BGO interview (when I was applying last year). So he knows about it, but it didn't come up this year. My packet is supposed to be reviewed thursday. My BGO seems confident I will get an appointment. Would it be unnecessary to bring up these worries so late in the game?

In other words, could letting my BGO in on my concerns about this help the situation at all, or would it just be bugging/burdening him unnecessarily?

If it was reported on this year's candidate data file, or anywhere else, you have done everything you need to do. If not, you need to remind yur BGO about it.

When you discussed with the CGO after last year as to why you were not admitted, was the incident a factor?

Good question, unfortunately I don't have a good answer. I never had that conversation.

Well, everything is reflected on the candidate file and if they need more info they've got all my contact information. I guess there's nothing I can do but take a step back and let the academy make its judgment.

I am not an authority on the subject but I believe if you are 3q and have a primary nomination, you are pretty much in. Or maybe I don't have a clear understanding of what 3q means.

If you are 3Qed and have a "principal" nom, you have an appointment. A principal nom means that an MOC has said that he/she thinks so highly of you that, if you are qualified (even marginally), USNA must offer you an appointment.

I understand this. My concern is that the board could find my high school suspension disqualifying, particularly they could decide it means that I am not "of good moral character", one of the basic eligibility requirements for admission to the academy.

If it was reflected accurately in your candidate fill and they subsequently scholastically qualified you anyway, it is a done deal. Not a factor. If not, get it out in the open now.

Your question has now been answered by 3 BGOs -- and all with the same answer. I'm not sure what more anyone can do to help you on this point.

Thanks, and I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be obnoxious; I was just saying I already understand the implications of a principal nom. I see now you were clearing up somebody else's confusion. Thanks again and sorry about the misunderstanding.
