So now that the waiting game is on, time for a diversion.
Huge assumption and hope that my DS gets an appointment, but if he does can someone give some insight into the sports as USCGA.
I understand they are Division III (USCGA is smaller than his High School!).
So I am pretty sure he is going to want to play sports, but will have to make some decisions on which sports to play. He is currently a 3 sport athlete, not the greatest on the teams, but a decent athlete.
He played football the past 2 years, before that he played club level soccer.
Is football and soccer during the same season? How does a cadet choose? Are there tryouts for the various teams?
He also threw the Javelin in Track and he was on the swim team.
Is there a list of which sports are available and what seasons.
Are the cadets required to play a sport during every season?
Thanks for the answers and for the distraction!!

Here is the link for USCGA sports. A link also for club sports. Will leave it to USCGA cadets or grads to address try outs, chances of making teams, what the commitments are. I am guessing with the amount of sports USCGA has and as few students as they do have, probably take some walk ons.

thanks for the link NavyHoops, I reviewed that site before posting, not many answers to my questions on there....

Sports are pretty open as far as walking on for varsity. You'll get playing time based on how well you do. Club sports are available, and so on.

Cadets must play a sport two seasons of three. What one(s) they play is pretty much up to them. To the best of my recollection, even recruited athletes are not required to play the sport they are recruited for (though the coach may not like it).

My son was a three season athlete in high school. XC, swimming, track. He got to CGA and decided he didn't want to do any of them. So he joined the triathlon team (??? no, I didn't get it either). His second year he found the hockey team. Never played before. He loves it. Does both, depending on the season.

Sorry to hijack...So interesting! I was surprised to learn that if DS is appointed wants to join the hockey team at USMMA. He has skated "pick up" all of his life thanks to the number of outdoor rinks in our neighborhood. I played ice hockey in college (goalie). Crew is #1 but he has always wanted to play hockey but perhaps developed the passion too late in life. (kind of thankful, hockey can be an expensive sport! Crew is cheap by comparison)
