i was wondering if i should go out for varsity cross-country were i can letter or club lacrosse where the coach said that i might be team captain as a sophomore?

lacrosse

Is there both Varsity Lacrosse and Club level Lacrosse? How do you "walk on" to a varsity sport at USNA? Thanks for any info.

sq2019: Do that sport that you WANT to do, not which you think will look better to the NA. That said, +90% of plebes can check the "Varsity Athlete" box on their applications. Also, what does the Cap of the LAX team actually do? Are there any real responsibilities? Or, do you just get to meet with the officials before each game?

WVMcCoy: start your own thread - its bad form to hijack someone elses thread for an unrelated questions. But since you asked, Navy LAX is consistently one of the highest ranked teams in the nation and if you're not being recruited as a HS junior, its highly doubtful that you can walk on to the team. Plus, look at the number of LAX players who come in through NAPS and you'll see its usually well stocked with freshman.

definitely play lacrosse. you can run for the rest of your life but playing contact sports competitively usually ends at high school for most kids. also i didn't even know they had a club team. i might wanna try out for that

I have to agree with osdad on this one - play what you enjoy first. I would lean toward the varsity sport unless your club lacrosse team is very competitive with workouts at least several times a week and playing a high level of summer and fall tournaments. You can always play club lacrosse the rest of the year - summer, fall and winter (indoor). If you are trying to get recruited the best place to be seen is at the top recruiting tournaments in the summer and fall where you will see the Navy coaches scouting out prospects. As for a walk on - it is possible but very difficult. The most likely prospects to make the team as walk-ons are the kids who were recruited at the D2 and D3 levels as Juniors who have greatly improved over the last year and the truly outstanding althlete who is transitioning from another sport. If you have been accepted to the USNA there is a card in the PTR package where you can indicate the varsity sports you are interested in trying out for.

osdad: hahahahahaha, are you the moderator??? it was a relevant and related question. it is bad form to bleed your opinion on others. thanks all for the info!
