I two people from my district have committed to a SA (one to Annapolis, one to West Point) for sports. Will they automatically be charged to my congressman or do the SAs try to find ways to slot them without taking slots from the local congressman. Should I be disheartened by this news and does this mean that the congressional nom is definitely gone?

You're class of 2019? Why would this affect you? (why would you be disheartened?)

nsbUSNA -- they AND you still need to get nominations. Recruited athletes are not guaranteed appointments -- they still have to be triple qualified with a nomination. I suggest you focus on what you can control right now -- your grades/classes/leadership/sports -- and making your application the best you can, rather than worrying about noms that won't even be given out for another 8+ months. Make sure you apply for ALL nominations you're eligible for, including your 2 senators, state representative and VP. Since I'm sure you've been reading this forum, you'll see that A LOT of candidates are still waiting to hear about appointments. Do you really want to worry for the next 12 months? I can think of a lot of more productive things you could be doing. Good luck!

^^^^ that. Apply for every nom you can and don't worry about who gets charged to what source. Recruited athletes can get superintendent noms so they don't always knock other kids out. My favorite quote "worry about yourself."

Keep in mind that these are verbal commitments; a non-binding agreement. Either party can back out at anytime. Next year, when they sign the dotted line is when the deal is sealed. If the SA's want them now, my guess is other schools will be looking at them next year.

All the best to you!

WOW! YOU ARE LUCKY! You are lucky to find out so early on that there are major competitors on your slate. Now you know to maximize every area of your profile. Even if they take ten athletes from your slate, make it impossible for them to say "no" to YOU! Retake your act/sat again and again. Have a good conversation with your english and math teachers so they have buy-in when they fill out your LOR. Finish this semester with As. Work hard now to maximize your CFA. Make sure you sign up for Boys State. Work on your essays. You have a ton of time to make YOU the rockstar!
