Spring break comes to an end... at least for DS and his three midshipman buddies who returned from their week of skiing with Mom last night and headed back to South Carolina this morning. It was fun watching the squad leaders who were present this morning updating their Platoon Sergeant, who was also present, on who had already returned to school and who hadn't yet. And the other Platoon Sergeant who was present was taking phone updates.

The midshipmen went party hopping at Wolfpack frats last night with DS and his girlfriend. Needless to say the Gamecocks were unimpressed... which I guess would be expected of any school vs another.

No injuries were suffered on the ski trip, other than some sunburn. A good time was had by all, except Mom, who I think got a little irritated with young men who just wanted to chill and weren't too concerned about the appearance of their bedrooms and eating habits over break. I doubt she'll be taking on that challenge again, not that I think the opportunity will come up. Next Spring Break will be too close to OCS to risk ski trips. Can't wait for the "real" ski trip update from DS while Mom is not around. I understand she was a little abrasive. Welcome to my world!

Let's hope for another injury free ski trip this week.

DS arrived with AROTC buddy in CO. Will spend today acclimating to 9000+ foot elevation and getting gear and lift tickets squared away. That military discount on the mountain makes a huge difference. I told him that's why he can't whine about any nickel/dime sequestration cuts to his stipend, if that ever happens.

DS has aunts, uncles and much older cousins out there. My brother is a retired airline pilot, flew in Vietnam and has all the requisite swagger and sarcasm. I told him to keep DS out of the trees, to which he responded, "no problem, we'll just ski the chutes."

Best of luck to your DS.

Now you just gave me an idea! My DS headed to FL with his fraternity brothers this year. Perhaps next year I can bribe him into spending some time with me by suggesting a ski trip ....... Of course he would need to bring some friends as I couldn't keep up on the slopes and his little brother will still be in school. But having had a mom who hated housecleaning, three younger brothers, two sons and a stepson, I can deal with mess better than my DH can.

The youngin just pulled out of the driveway an hour ago for the trip back to school.

We had to cancel our ski trip due to some issues with son's physical for Combat Diver School, appointments during the week. Spring Break turned out to be a pretty lazy affair. He did run the St' Patrick's Day Run in Seattle with a Frat brother of his this morning before they left, and a lot of training for the school.

Don't think we'll see him next Spring Break, he and some of his Frat buddies have already started planning the big Spring Break trip for next year, they'll all be 21. I miss those days sometimes.

Best of luck to all the DD's and DS's during the last couple months of the school year.

DS was home the week before - cancelled his plans to visit Auburn U with some fellow cadets and stayed home to sleep, eat and repeat...

He's back into the thick of it and I do believe ready and rearing to be a MSIII next year and shake up some lack of communication problems in his unit.

Glad to hear all survived their adventures (kinnem, your DW is a trooper to take the "boys" skiing:thumb:, get her a bottle of wine and let her vent about their sloppiness etc...)

Just ready to have my boy home this summer, so hoping the next 7 weeks goes quickly!

Great to hear about the adventures, or even lack thereof due to life's inconvenient interventions, of all these great kids. Always nice to have time with the young'uns. Thanks everybody! Now on to the marathon towards finals! :thumb:

DS and 3 ROTC buddies went to Washington DC for the week. They spent the week visiting Smithsonians, memorials and coffee shops. Apparently a good time was had by all. Now, it's back to the final preparations for Sandhurst and Dive School. The next few weeks wil be intense!

    Kinnem,

Should've had DS take mom bar hopping with the young guns. Not sure about your sons crowd, but we always enjoy taking the moms (and dads) out to the bars with us. Keeps our ego's in check when someone suggests to play quarters (the moms still have the golden touch). Good to hear fun was had by all.

It's our spring break this week and the majority of us are down in Florida, of course taking part in safe, well regulated fun. Haha

O so jealous of those of you getting to spend time with your DS/DD over Spring break. Having been a baseball mom for 14 years I used to look forward to games/tournaments scheduled at this time. Unfortunately, although my DS is currently on Spring break, 6 baseball games and 2500 miles separate me from both my DS and his games. Can't wait for summer!

Safely on the bus back to Denver a/o 0630, injury free. According to my brother, he actually wore a helmet at no one's suggestion. Maybe that's why he wore it.

Best of luck to all for the remainder of the semester.

LOL. Glad he had a safe spring break. I'm sure your surmise regarding the helmet is correct!

    Fall Billet

DS returned this week to find out his autumn billet will be as Alpha Company XO. He's excited and certainly didn't expect or even hope for that assignment. It's the first time he knew what billet he might have more than two days before assuming it. Seems like someone is on the ball this year in getting that done early.

He signed some papers to go into a pool for an Amphib Cruise for summer training this week (he is unable to attend Mt. Warfare which would be his normal training cycle this summer). I mention it only because it seems that summer training is still on track for NROTC anyway. At least the word hasn't come down that it is definitely cancelled -- yet.

Good Luck to all for the rest of the semester. Crack those books!
