Anyone familiar with sprint football at USNA? DS has played baseball his whole life, but really developed a strong desire to play football in the past year. Too late now for high school. Do they allow "beginners" to play sprint football?

I sent you a private message.

Yes, my son plays on the Sprint Football team at Navy. He had 3 years experience playing in high school and he also played 4 years of Varsity Baseball in high school. There are tryouts for the team every year. He will have an opportunity to work out with the coaches during plebe summer and then try out at the beginning of the school year. I have to say that it is a wonderful group of young men and my son is proud to be a part of the team.

It is a varsity sport. They typically play about 7-8 games a season and are done by the Thanksgiving holiday. There is a weight limit. Go on the Academy website for sports and click on Sprint football. It is a great team!

Yes, it is a Varsity Sport and there is no difference in the play except the weight limit - currently 172 lbs. 48 hours before game day (typically on Friday or Saturday). We have attend most of the games (as do quite a few of the parents). My son has not had a problem making weight for each game.
