Awesome, RZTL! Congratulations. If my son goes with the NROTC scholarship instead of the AFROTC scholarship, he might be seeing you there!

Congrats! We also found out yesterday that our DS received a 4-yr NO scholarship to his first choice school, University of South Carolina! We are very excited and proud! We couldn't believe the screen said "Congratulations", when we expected it to still say "No Decision Has Been Made". My son's close friend also received a 4-yr NO scholarship to his first choice school as well. Exciting day!

I stumbled upon this site by accident while surfing one night, and have learned so much from many of you. Learned lots of acronyms!! :shake: Thank you for your experiences and advice that you freely share! :thumb: It is much appreciated.

Woohoo! How great is that! As you can tell from my screen icon I'm a big fan of the Gamecock Battalion, especially as it includes my MIDN/3C DS! And when your son goes to the college's Orientation, tell him to look out for the Freshman Orientation Leader with the high and tight de rigour Marine Option haircut and introduce himself.

If you have any questions about the school or the unit feel free to PM me. Or if your DS would like to get in touch with my DS I'm sure he would be happy to talk to him.

    Congratulations! Go Gamecocks!

EDIT: Oh yeah, they placed 3rd overall at the Mardi Gras Drill Meet this weekend!

She wants to be a Navy officer

Our recruiter EAS'd during the summer and we were finally contacted in mid September by the new recruiter. She got the ball rolling and got us caught up with transcripts and interview. At this point its a waiting game. I am worried that the budget battle in DC will affect the scholarship program. If the NAVY can't afford to fuel our carriers then how can they fund scholarships?

Tier 2 major (Computer Science/Info Tech)
    SAT: math 600 verbal 700
    ACT: 29
    GPA: 4.0/4.09 with AP classes
    4 year volleyball team captain
    National Honor Society
Admitted to Ohio State and Purdue; waiting on word from Notre Dame and Duke

She has a much stronger package than dad did when he went to MIZZOU in '82 on a NROTC scholarship (Marine option).

Luckily, our carriers are nuke. So no fueling necessary. :thumb:

Don't lose hope. The fat lady has not sung.

The Navy is definitely having to run a tight fiscal ship these days. No doubt. My older son is enlisted. His rate historically paid a $15,000 signing bonus (not re-enlistment.....signing). The Navy canned the bonus a month before he left for RTC.

Good luck to your daughter. And I'm right in the same boat with you. My high school stats look dismal compared to all three of my children. I guess they're just making them smarter these days!

You're correct on the first part, that they are all nuclear. However, even nuclear ships need to be refueled after many years of service and the Navy is delaying that process for one of them due to costs.

got ya. The poster said "fuel," so I didn't connect that in my mind with refueling the reactor. Hubby was a nuke, so way tooooooo familiar with that aspect of the Navy.

How long does it take for you to be notified if you did or did not receive a scholarship? From what I understand the board for MO meets today and I am anxious about finding out.
