Same here. Has Army and Navy ROTC scholarships so planning some visits in the next two weeks.
Yep, thankfully DS landed a 4-year AROTC to his top choices apart from the Academy. He wanted the Academy so bad but he's headed to Baylor with his best friend. He's going to get a top tier education and serve his country and I couldn't be more proud. Some doors close while others open. Stay positive and encouraging! If your DS/DD really loves the Academy, encourage them to self-prep! If they have a Plan B that's now Plan A, embrace it with them! Find everything you can online to get excited about that new Plan A. Best of luck to everyone and thank you for riding this crazy ride with us. ;)

I was placed on the waitlist. There is an informational meeting tonight regarding the waitlist. My main question is how many prospective cadets are on the waitlist and, historically how many waitlisted students receive and offer.

Tough question. They should be able to let you know how many are on the waitlist. But the number pulled from the list varies each year. CGA will always give more appointments then the number of spots they have because they know historically that a certain percentage will decline or not be medically cleared. However, if more people than expected decline, that is when they start pulling from the waitlist. For the class of 2024, they pulled ZERO. Someone else on these forums posted that last year they pulled around 40.

Keep in mind that the waitlist is not in any particular order. Everyone on the waitlist is considered very well-qualified. CGA will pull from the waitlist to fill in gaps in the overall class after they know who has declined, who has accepted, and who has received medical waivers.. They might want more from a particular major, or for a particular sport, or from a particular area of the country, etc...

If you haven't seen it, this lunch and learn April 18, 2023: A Conversation with CGA Admissions Director, CAPT Michael Friede is VERY INFORMATIVE about what CGA is looking for in a candidate. It also is helpful in understanding how CGA builds each years class. People always wonder why one person was chosen over another, especially when it gets down to the final selections or in who is selected (if any) off of the wait list. Capt Fredie goes into a lot of detail. At ~41:30 he even presents a spreadsheet which shows CGA's goals for building the class of 2027 and whether they succeeded. It breaks it down by states, majors, and sports, but Capt Fredie talks about other factors as well (obviously academics and leadership). There is another slide that provides percentages of male/female, ethnicity, early action vs regular, recruited athletes, musical recruits, AIM attendees, etc.. It is definitely worth the time to watch.

Thank you. I will take a look at the "lunch and learn" recording. It sounds like the USCGA is looking for pieces to complete a puzzle, which makes sense.

So, fairly confused - and concerned - about what's going on. DS heard nothing yesterday - not "No," not CGAS, not wait-list - and portal still reflects 12/21 date and letter from being deferred EA to RA. Anyone else in this boat (cutter?) and anyone have any ideas about what this may mean?

As of 6:30 am Pacific 4/1 my DS was in the same cutter. Have not heard since then.

Well one thing's for sure...he's not gonna get a call from AO today, or anyone else. We're in the middle of the Caribbean on a cruise ship with no phone service. He emailed AO to let him know best way to communicate is by email. I'm sure Bear's Den is tired of seeing me

My DD's Bears Den still showed application submitted- I expected to see Accepted or Denied but there wasn't a change.

I overlooked Decision Status Available beginning 4/1/24, with a link underneath which said "your application decision is now available online"

Good luck!

Today 4/1 is decision day. All day today is still in play. Also, (particularly with Easter falling over the weekend) they could be running a tad behind and there’s nothing to say decision communications for some won’t spill into tomorrow or beyond. It has happened before.

Well this is heartbreaking. Plan B has been promoted to Plan A. So proud of that young man who worked so hard for the last three-plus years, but also put down the iPad and said, “Okay - we try again next year.” He’s got a scholarship to GMC so prep begins today.

Bravo Zulu and congratulations to all the new appointees and scholars, and good luck to those waitlisted. Clearly some talented young men and women, and some great parenting too, so “Well Done!” to all the parents as well.

All of those who didn’t make it - don’t give up! Plenty of stories in these pages who came back again and again until it happened for them.
