Son and I will be staying at Country Inn. Husband says its about 2.5 miles away. Any suggestions on what time we should leave to report at 7:00am and what preferred method of transport, our rental car, the shuttle, or a taxi????? Any suggestions and other info greatly appreciated.

Lots more variable than you're mentioning.

1. Will you and your husband be STAYING in downtown Annapolis for the day? Or is that too early? That's an important thing you need to decide.

We stayed at that exact place for I Day a year ago. Hubby and I took plebe-to-be with us. We drove the the stadium, parked. Caught one of their shuttle busses, took pleber to Alumni Hall, hugged him, saw him off, and then walked back to the stadium, got our van and went back to the hotel for a while. We had a crowd with us though. Several siblings, friends, grandparents, etc. They saw off our plebe the night before and in the morning. No one came to drop him at Alumni Hall except hubby and I.

You should know that there is NOT alot of parking in Down Town Annapolis (DTA). Leave the rental car at the stadium and take the shuttle.

You should know that you need to allot MUCH time on I Day. I think our plebe's report time was 7am. We aimed to be in the stadium lot no later than 6am. When we arrived, the lines for the shuttle were already 100 people or more long. It moves fast, but we were glad we arrived so early. Til we waited for the lines to move, rode the shuttle, etc, he was in good shape to report right on time.

After that, the day is yours. You could catch the shuttle to the stadium and go back to the hotel, eat breakfast, pack up, etc, and go back to the stadium for another shuttle to USNA.

If you want to just STAY in town after 7am, walk into town and go to Chick and Ruth's Delly for breakfast. Authentic Annapolis. Spend the day on the yard. Enjoy the atmosphere and try to adjust to your new life!!

My hubby won't be there, it will just be my son and me. So, you think if we are there by six a.m. that is plenty of time, or should I even push it up to arriving by 5:30 a.m.??? Is there alot of traffic, how long will it take us to get from hotel to the yard. Hmmm, I was thinking maybe a taxi because that way I wouldn't have to park or take a shuttle, right? If I did take the taxi, would they drop us off right where we need to be....where ever that is ....LOL, I am starting to get nervous just thinking about it. Yes, I would see son off and just walk around town, have breakfast at Chick and Ruth's like you suggest and cry in my coffee.....lol. Just curious, would a taxi save us time; probably not too expensive being so close. Just pondering. Thanks.

When we visited this past January, the taxi ride was about $15 from Chick and Ruths Delly to the mall area.

We are staying at the Country Inn also. We are from Washington.

Just spoke to the hotel personnel and their shuttle doesn't start transporting until 9a.m. Being from California, we have an early check in time of 7a.m. Hey Kamajama, did you take the taxi last year, and if so, would you recommend taking it again? Did it take about ten minutes and where did it drop you off at? Any info appreciated.
Thanks.

I would NOT recommend a taxi. Park at the stadium with everyone else. Ride the shuttle with everyone else. That's the system of the day, and it's designed to work the way it needs to work. That's just me, of course!

There is something to be said for the excitement and nervousness of being in that crowd on that day for that reason. Drive your rental car to the stadium. Plan to get there an hour before report time. Take the shuttle. See the plebe off, and then have breakfast. Enjoy the day. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Just my humble opinion. Others may have other suggestions. We did it the way I described above--it was a grand day. (Our newly 3/C midn would probably NOT use the word "Grand" for it, though!!)

Maui1, I took the taxi from Chick and Ruths Delly back and forth to the mall and it was around 15 minutes. I got the cell phone number of our taxi driver and then used him for each excursion. It was quick and convenient. The shuttle sounds like a rich experience for most and I am sure it is designed to work well. Humble as your opinion is HuskiesMama, it isn't for everyone. We have a special needs son and we do whatever we can to make things work for him. I say get there however you can-just don't be late.

Some general notes on on I-day (and for PPW):

- Check with the taxi company and/or USNA about their ability to drive on the Yard. Access is limited during events such as I-day, PPW, Commissioning Week, etc. Your parent's pass does NOT allow you to park on the Yard during those times, and it is possible that taxi access could be limited.

- If you have handicapped tags/permits, you may be able to drive directly onto the Yard. There are very few spots, and they are first come/first served.

- If at least one member of your party is up for walking, you should be able to get a 30 minute pick-up/drop-off pass at the USNA Gate to drop off those in your party who can't walk very far (Gate 8 is open to vehicular traffic, and is closest to Alumni Hall). If the shuttle lines are long, it's 1.75 miles from the Blue lot shuttle stop to T-court, only ~1.5 miles to Alumni Hall. The best walking route is out Gate 8, then follow Taylor Ave.

- Stadium parking is only $5 for the day. If you keep your receipt, you can go in and out as often as you like.
