STEM acceptances

DS received TWE today - rejected. Freshman this year with 29 ACT last fall, varsity letter, 4.15 GPA, and activities...

My son received his TWE today as well. Hard to tell how these decisions are made, just keep moving forward

SAMom - I asked that question when I emailed over his travel plans to them today. They told me 125 kids per session - so only 1/6 as many kids as NASS (each session). Going to be a very small group! I think your son will have a good time - my older son did 3 SS's back to back last summer and had a blast.

Bandad - are you somewhere near USNA? Sounds like pretty impressive stats to me! I do notice that the letter is signed by the director of Strategic Outreach, which leads me to believe that they are definitely targeting certain areas/groups/candidates, not just an overall comparison of stats. Guess it's good we live in an underrepresented state as well!

DD just got the TWE today. Disappointed, yes; but not surprised considering the dense military population in this area.

Just to ask - Did anyone else catch how generous the letter was written? They tried to make it sound like the margin between have's and have not's was razor thin.

have a great day

Marciemi - We are from Alabama and I am not sure if we are over or under represented. I hope the kids that were accepted to STEM have a great time and enjoy the experience. Since we have been to USNA before, we are now talking about making a trip to USMA or USAFA this summer/fall to experience another SA. I really don't envy the folks making the decisions because I am sure it is a difficult thing to do.

Take care...

STEM

My daughter was accepted to the STEM program (2010) 2nd session. I am curious to know if anyone else from the southern California region is going?

sandie - evidently it's a very small program (they told me 125 per session) so really only a handful from each state. Unlikely that a lot will have found these forums yet unless they have older siblings who went through the process.

Does that mean your daughter is a freshman? My son will be attending that session, but from WI. You must have had fun finding flights - our only real option was the 6am flight from 2 hours away in order to get him a non-stop flight that arrived during the specified times. Didn't have any confidence in him changing planes on his own!

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat! Good luck and congrats to your daughter!
