    Okay, since we now have an official moderator for ROTC, I was hoping maybe we could get some new stickies added into this forum like they have on the SA and nomination forums. FAQs?

    Every year we get the same questions. I am not talking chance me.

    Could we have a sticky regarding general questions and answers instead of constantly repeating the same thing each and every time.

    Maybe 3 FAQs stickies. Army, Navy and AF.
    ~ Things like the common questions that are reposted over and over again.
    ~~ SAT/ACT super scored?
    ~~ College choices/intended majors
    ~~ Can I transfer my scholarship
    ~~ Tax issuess if I take room and board
    ~~ Interview questions/attire
    ~~ Contracting procedures...passing PFA and required documentation

    I get the boards tweak every year whether it is when they meet, or selection rate, but if posters and lurkers had the ability to look at a sticky than maybe we could assist them on this roller coaster ride better than any other site out there. It may mean that lurkers become active posters because they used the stickies and now are looking at aspects that are more detailed. Hence, helping others.
    ~ I am a long time poster, and people like Kinnem, sheriff, Jcleppe, etc. all remember gojiras post. That was and still to this day impo, a unique aspect that was a learning aspect for every poster.

    I agree this would be a great idea! It could quickly assist those looking into ROTC in learning more about applying as well, making it look like less of a beast.

    I am going to be honest, I am sure there will still be the chance me ,super score, transfer, etc. questions, but, maybe by having the FAQs we all can keep saying...look at the sticky.

    It might also help posters like clarkson. I would love to see an NROTC or AFROTC PMS, and maybe there are some that are lurkers and will now officially post.

    I am not an idiot. I see all the time on the nomination forum asking the same questions... How charging works, what to wear, etc. But, I am a half glass full type of person and believe many look at the sticky before posting. Many will feel more comfortable posting because they were informed via the sticky....many fear posting impo because they fear asking a STUPID question.
    ~~~ regardless how often we say there is no such thing as a stupid question
    I concur, great idea Pima. Also if someone knows of an AFROTC and NROTC ROO or PMS please pass on this forum to them and maybe we can get them to contribute as well. Clarkson and Bama have been a great help.
    I concur with Sheriff's concurrence: great idea, Pima. Once the stickies are in place, kinnem might even have enough time to realize his goal of playing 45 holes in one day.
    It was a little troubling, however, to read Pima's declaration ("I am not an idiot"). Don't you realize that disqualifies you from elective office?
    Wait! I thought we were going to play those 45 holes together... right before flying out to the next Superbowl! :) I told Pima via PM that I thought it was a good idea but want to think about how best to go about it.... which won't happen until after my well deserved vacation!
    Mind if we all try brainstorming on here what would be pertinant info to include on those respective threads?
    Sounds like a good idea. And if you think you know the right info on a topic, identify the ROTC program and provide the info? Maybe I can cut and paste together a document. I know one thing that needs to be there is links to each program's web page. Sometimes I wonder if some folks here have read them.
    +1 Kinnem I agree! And with NROTC, there have already been a lot of changes in the admissions process from last year to this year alone. I think we'll need to stay on top of the constantly changing requirements.
    ^^ This is why "stickies" are problematic. Unless someone is maintaining them, many will become outdated.
    There are 4 ROTC programs (Army, Navy/MO), and Air Force. I do think links to the official sites are a good idea.
    I also think there are some universal subjects like interviewing advice that could be helpful. We get a lot of resume builder questions like leadership opportunities, sports, clubs, etc that could benefit from a stickie.
    But after that, it may get too cumbersome and time consuming to maintain others.
    I agree that staying on top of the application process is problematic. We do not have the knowledge or resources to do that. I think that's why we include links to the various web sites. However, some information, like what percentage of awardees are technical majors would be useful in terms of someone assessing their chances.
    I'm traveling tonight through next week so don't panic if you don't see me comment here.
    Interview suggestions (which is how I found this site originally!), What to wear, timeline about getting stuff done, maybe workout links for those who have to do a fitness test are all good general knowledge things that would not change too much year to year.
    Congratulations.
    Below I quoted a post by Jcleppe which I believe is sticky worthy,
    "Now the Reality.
    What you've actually been given is a Government Backed Student Loan. This Loan has various options for re-payment.
    1. Payback of loan if you drop the program or are disenrolled after your sophomore year.
    2. Possible Enlistment as payback if you drop or are disenrolled after your sophomore year.
    3. 8 years Reserve or National Guard Service
    4. 4 years Active and 4 years IRR (Competitive and not a guarantee.)
    5. Once you commission you have to complete your service obligation or you could still end up having to repay the scholarship.
    There are several ways a cadet can be disenrolled from ROTC, you'll learn those as you go.
    As far as the Career Path, unless your in the top 10% of the Active Duty OML the Army will choose that career path for you. You make a wish list but it is ultimately up to the Army.
    Meet all the requirements of your contract and you will commission, you will find even in your new battalion that not everyone will make it through.
    I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but keep this in the back of your mind, don't dwell on it but be aware. The hard work is just beginning.
    Now with that being said.....It is pretty awesome isn't it."
    I am sorry kinnem. I think I just created an empire for you by posting this suggestion. However, on the flip side I hope TN sees that many posters would appreciate it.
    Here are my suggestions.
    1. Each ROTC has their own FAQs regarding the scholarship process
    ~~IE AFROTC is different than the others because they don't supercore, nor is the scholarship tied to the college, whereas, it is for A/NROTC
    ~~ Room and board paid?
    2. Interview FAQ
    ~ what to wear, what to bring, how long will it last?
    3. Got the scholarship, now what?
    ~ DodMERB, response time, transferring it.
    4. Activating the scholarship and beyond
    ~ Pass the PFT, when the tuition, stipend or books will be paid,
    Just my spitballing from what comes up every year like clockwork. Late spring/early Summer...scholarship application questions. Fall...interview questions and activating scholarships. Late Fall/early winter got the scholarship now what? Winter/early spring ...got the scholarship, but denied admissions.
    Those stickies would answer the questions for lurkers or allow people to reccomend the sticky for more research.
    The chance me threads will still exist, and the record will keep repeating....nobody sits on the board, you have 0% chance if you don't apply. I just think some lurkers are afraid of asking a "dumb/stupid" question and don't register. There is no dumb/stupid question, but if we make it easy access to find the answers quickly they can than learn more and feel comfortable posting.
    ~ It might also stop posters from digging through the bowels and retrieving a post that is years old .
    ~~ Lurkers, I have been here for 7 years. I can tell you that when you pull up a 4 or 5 year old thread, looking for a poster with a specific issue like yours, chances are they are long gone. The next thing is chances are that things have changed during those years.
    ~~~~ AFROTC this year is not sending reboarded candidates up for every board. If told this year they were not selected in Dec., they are now being held off until the end of March. LY, they would have been reboarded at each and every board.
